Mustang GT Opti Coat Pro yup its black... - Orinda Auto Detail

Orinda Auto Detail

Opti Coat Pro Certified
This client came to me after someone tried to detail his beloved pony with little success if any. The arrived completely hazed up from improper DA compounding. After 3 step correction and close to 30 hours opti coat pro was applied. We also powder coated the wheels black!

I'm seeing this more and more now days. D/A haze the newest form of buffer halo's? Proof that a PC is not fail proof.

Gotta get it up in the air to get the wheels off. While it was up here I showed some love to the under side of the car that had never been touched by anyone far as I could tell. GAWD with all the D/A haze you'd think they could of cleaned everything.... WHY I NEVER!!! The nerve of some people!

In all seriousness this car gave me a very hard time... It defeated my little brother just by looking at it and my assistant manager ran away from it like it was the plague. I get it we had a bunch of Tesla's here that all of us can do blind folded at this point... Or the destroyed black mustang that wouldn't respond to anything! So the big guns came out to get this pony to the show! As I approached armed with DA haze fixing rotary(Ironic right?) I did a test spot and this is what I came up with. Now here's the tricky part you can't see in this pic, After removing the haze underneath there were some nasty defects covering this car. It looked liked the whole car had been ran over with steel wool and little grooves in the paint(you know when you buff out a scratch but there is still an indention there?). So this changed my plan of attack. After seeing that my steps ended up being rotary/carpro leveling pad(defect removal) Rupes21/MFFD(middle step) Rupes21/white rupes(HOLY LOTTA GLOSS step) Topped of with OC pro. I logged close to 25 hours polishing alone and this car fought me every step of the way. ENJOY!

"armed with DA haze fixing rotary(Ironic right?)"

hey joe I LOVE YOU MAN! haha. keep up the hard work, your doing great! the mustang looks sweet!

Awesome job Joe! I can't believe how bad it was. On the note that a PC isn't fail proof and since I am new to polishing what would cause that? I've done the 2-step on my wife's black car and a couple 1-steps since then and I got great results. Of course I watch a lot of videos and do a lot of reading making sure I use proper equipment and technique but how could it go so wrong?

Awesome job! Perhaps the most impressive part of this thread is that you actually show real sun shots (as opposed to garage or shade shots) of your finished product. I probably shouldn't go there again. I'm such an aXX. Great work!

You totally won! Way to man up!

that is a ton of hours polishing btw. but kinda worth it because the gloss is sick. and defect free of course

Thanks guys!!

I've duplicated DA Haze from try to hard to get out defects before I knew what I was doing. If you use something really aggressive its always going to leave a less than perfect finish(the haze) that requires polishing steps to fix. I suspect on this car who ever tried first was laying into the paint hard core trying to get the grooves out which IMO would never of came out with DA anyway. I spent a ton of time with a rotary and a leveling pad knocking the edges off of them so that the car would reflect light better.

GearHead did you forget? Has it been that long since I've done a write up? I'm Mr http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/auto-detailing-101/40807-sun-shots-tell-story.html :yay

Excellent work Joe! Its the easy cars that make us look great but the challenging ones that make us great. Awesome job!!! :yourrock

What a great turnaround. I always enjoy reading your threads Joe. This one actually made me laugh out loud.

Thanks guys!!

My memory really isn't very good. Seriously though, I just appreciate it all the more when a Detailer isn't afraid to show how things really went. It just impressed me.

It literally is the first thing I look for when reading a review or write up. If pictures are taken in the shadows (even when it's bright outside) I just kind of move on. It is so easy to make a mediocre detail look like a top notch piece of work by manipulating light. The sun don't lie.

Really nice job on a tough car. 25 hours-Man, not that the results are not worth the effort, but that was a serious time comittment. I sure hope your customer appreciated the effort and paid you well.

Indeed. To reuse another saying, it is the journey that is really important and not just the destination (end result).

Jsmooth- Joe !!!

That is an absolutely beautiful, clear, perfect correction and last step !!

You rocked it, man !!!

25 hours is not so bad a number to achieve Perfection like this !!! This is how it is really done - there is no other way...

Big Andrew and I, probably the only users of Rotary Power here, salute you !!

Thanks for the awesome work and pictures !!! No other Mustang looks like that one !!!
