Moving on from a Honda Pilot to a truck for mobile detailing

I really like my Honda Pilot. Plenty of space to store all my needs. But the chemicals etc etc smells are just really bothering me and I think it's such a waste to use a family loaded with leather, DVD system for work. I figured a truck would do a better job, more professional looking and also I get about the same gas mileage.

I'm debating between a 4dr Toyota Tacoam or 4dr F150 Lariat or FX2.

I've always been a Toyota owner so I'm kinda of debating the move on an American car!

What are your thoughts?

This is going to sound awful, but Im done buying American cars...Chevys especially. The past 5 or 6 vehicles I've owned were either Chevy or Fords, and with the exception of a 79 F150, they were all junk. Their front ends are garbage, the electrical system (anything like power windows) are garbage, etc. I will say that Chevy makes one hell of a motor. Just too bad everything around it breaks or rusts in two. My vote goes to the Toyota.

Some one once told me the cheapest and best vehicle is the one you already own.

When you make a leap to a new / non-paid for vehicle you have to take into account payments and such into your operating costs. I personally see nothing wrong with a Pilot as a detail rig, especially if you can get everything you need in it and are organized. And they look nice as well. Just my opinion. :)

Agreed. If your needing more room, look into a small box trailer. You can pick up a 6x10 fairly cheap and would look very professional.

Hate to say this, but your problem isn't that American cars are junk; it's that you buy junked-out American cars. Take your current Tahoe, for example.... it was a former border patrol truck. Had you bought a Tahoe that was used by a soccer mom on 100% pavement you wouldn't have anywhere near the number of problems you're having with your beat-to-hell-and-back truck.

Always take that into consideration when you're assessing the quality of any given brand's products. Personally I've only ever owned GM vehicles and I have no reason to want to change that because with the exception of one vehicle I bought used that had already been beat up by someone before me, I've never had any issues to speak of.

Well yea I wasn't even really referring to the Tahoe. We have had several Chevy cars and now a minivan that have been headaches. The Cavalier was the worst one. I know plenty of folks who are die hard chevy and ford fans and have had great luck with both. Maybe Ill try my luck with a Dodge next lol.

Well as much as I want to keep the Pilot, which I really do. I've always wanted a truck and it's very "mod-able". The Pilot is a great car, not gonna lie! But a full size truck like the F150 has the same size of an interior of a Pilot + a truck bed.

Tacoma looks good! But I think it's a little too small for me. Especially when I carry a lot of passengers with me at times.

Still debating!

To the OP, is your Honda color Blue?

Nope, silver!

So do you want a truck because of the chemical smell inside the pilot from supplies or do you want a truck because you just want a truck?

I have an 09 Ram crew cab and I love it. It runs well and compared to my old truck it gets good gas mileage. Out of all the trucks I looked at it had the most interior room and the back seat is large enough that 3 adults can sit back there comfortably.

my vote is the full size truck, preferably with an 8' bed. you can't go wrong...

Can't get a half-ton crew cab with an 8' bed as far as I know.... and I'm assuming he wants a crew cab.

Besides which if you've never driven one, a crew cab with the 8' bed (HD truck) is as long as a limousine. That can make it a real bear to deal with in parking lots at times.

Well then it's a shame that chevys can't take a beating then:D

I used to own a chevy xtreme, the thing had rust holes on it after 6 years, and this is something chevy is famous for. I loved the truck to death, but it was a damn nightmare. Any american built car which I can agree with mrclean, is trash.

I would say then go with the vehicle that fits your need. That's the most important thing I recommend to you.

you are right and i know this. but a extra cab 1/2 ton will do for him what he needs unless he plans on putting grown-ups in the back seat often. fuhget about getting in the front of the parking lot for sure.
