Moth Ball Fumes

My mother left moth balls inside a cedar lined hope chest. I have 'aired" it out to no avail and tried to lightly sand the cedar wood. Any other suggestions to remove the stench?

Cedar is bad for absorbing humidity and retaining it, without twisting and warping (this is why cigar humidors are made from spanish cedar). You have no choice but to air it out, for a LONG time. Any cigar collector who's been doing it long enough can tell you how long it takes an empty humidor to lose it's tobacco smell.
