More "Optimum X" News...

Strange.

It goes from a product that will ONLY be sold to pros, and would cost $700 to $800 to apply, to a product that will be sold to enthusiasts as well for around $90.

Things change quickly, don't they?

I dont understand the whole pros only thing. I've been using Optimum stuff for a few years now, and I cant help but wonder why the good Dr has to develop something for pros only. It seems to me that the word professional gets thrown around loosely when it comes to detailing. I'll put my weekend warrior work up against a lot of the so called pros that run around here. No, I'm not saying I'm the best out there (I'm not), but Joe Schmo the PROFESSIONAL paint swirler can get the pro only product because he happens to hack people's paint for a living, where as I only do it on the side (because I like to).

Oh well, it doesnt matter to me anyway at $90 for 4 or 5 applications. I wish Optimum the best of luck and will continue to use their other products.

"Durability is far beyond any sealant. It can be layered and also topped with carnauba waxes and polymer sealants." Somebody please define how long "far beyond" is and I personally don't get this whole layer/topping thing. A $90 2 ouncer should stand king of the hill all by itself.

You need to read the link. They ARE going to sell to the enthusiast now, which was not the original plan.

I did read the link. This part (well the last part in parenthesis) is what I was replying to:

It was at first going to be released and sold only to professional detailers but after much debate it's been decided that the product shall be released and sold to both pros and enthusiasts, I can say that with, again, almost 100% accuracy (a developing idea is in the works for pros only).

Got ya. You just made it sound like you were wishing them luck since you couldn't use this product.

Durability? It's still on my early test cars at 3 years now. This is not a sealant but a coating.

3 years?

I guess what they mean by using a topper is that you can put stuff over it without affecting the base coating or its durability. Don't hold me to that though, I tried a very early version so I haven't seen or tested any current formulas.

And the hype train keeps on rolling.... I like the bit about Optimum having to be released from liability from users who misuse the product. Apply by spray gun, durable, UV protection of clear coat...can be misused so badly the company makes you sign a release...sounds a bit like clear paint, to me.

I know a couple of "permanent coatings" and this sounds like one of them. Nyalic is a polymer resin wich is applied with spray gun. I have washed cars after 15 months and they sheet water like the best Zymöl or Swisswax. Do they work? Oh yes.

Looking forward for to try this against PPS wich IMO is one of the most durable sealants.

Comparing coatings. At first it did sound like an X-Kote type product. But the more i hear they seem very different. X-Kote hides and fills swirls and also the minimum amount of product to be used is about 6 oz.

Maybe X-Kote topped with product X for the double X factor.

Sounds like it would appeal to a very small market segment. This sounds like a nice product for a Pro restorer more than a hobby detailer.

I agree.

If this really is something akin to a clear coat, the $90 price seems quite good.

Depends on how easily and trouble free it applies. What about overspray? How is it removed? You can buy traditional clearcoat at the autoparts store pretty inexpensively.

I wonder if it's similar to a clear version of touchup123?

Hmmmmm....I don't know what to think about this. Like many people have said it sounds a lot like another clear. It sounds like a lot of hype, before I buy some I would really like to see some reviews.

PPS? Any other info on this?

forget reviews, I'd like to know what it is first. imo too much hype at this point without even knowing what it is. at least wait to start the hype machine after we find out for sure what it is.
