More cut with FP II

I love the IP/FP II combo, but I don't want to have to use both everytime swirlmarks appear. I was wondering, could I get more cut from FP II and still get the same gloss if I use it with the orange LC pad instead of white?

It may be difficult to finish down with an orange pad. Try it and see what happens. What works for one person may not work on your paint. Trial and error is the name of the game. If your happy with the results that's all that matters.

That depends on the paint. On a harder clear or light color you should be able to get away with it.

Don't know if Lexus has hard or soft paint. It is a light color, metallic pearl white.

You're right, of course, about trying it out myself. I was just wondering if anybody had tried it yet. As it stands, I've had my car for over a year and I haven't encountered any swirl marks yet. It's garaged and I'm very meticulous about keeping it clean and waxed. I might try it on my brother-in-law's car instead.:buffing:

Does anybody know if the new VW's have the ceramic clearcoats or if they're hard or soft?

Try using 106FF or Ultrafina instead. Both have a lot more cut than FPII and finish down very well on all but the softest paints.

That means buying more stuff. I'll probably do it later, but right now I just want to try and get more use out of the FP II I have right now, which I love, btw.

Noting that I've never tried FPII...I'm *MUCH* more in favor of using harsh product/mild pad combos as opposed to the other way around. Using a harsh pad with a mild product has *never* worked out well for me. And I've never attained a ready-to-wax finish with a LC orange pad.

I agree... if you don't want to buy any more products, then try using the IP with a milder (LC white?) pad instead and see if that helps. Using FPII with a heavier pad won't do much good, and you're more likely to end up with holograms that way

I've done IP with the white pad already. Seems to work o.k. on my wife's white accord. Leaves an ever-so-slight haze on my red prelude. I could try it with the green LC pad and see how that works......

21 thousand and change posts...what have you been doing while I've been gone?

I agree with the strategy, and personally I don't even like the orange pads any more (but I use a rotary); for DA they are okay. But I personally don't like either of the options here...orange pad with FPII will rarely finish down 1st class... and same IP with and soft pad (the abrasives in IP are just too big). Best option for now, FPII with white for single step or IP with orange or white first. Long term option is to get better polish combo...like 106FF and SIP.

RAG- Hey there glad to see you posting :wavey Heh heh, I oughta spend less time posting and more time detailing, huh? I thought of you when using some of your Sonus gray clay a while back :D

termigator- Noting that I don't use IP, IMO it's not unusual for it to leave some slight hazing...after all, it's not a finishing polish and Menzerna makes a scad of lighter products made just for things like follow-ups after IP.

IIRC, IP is sorta similar to my 3M PI-III RC 05933 and while some people think that stuff finishes out OK I'd *NEVER* consider it to leave a ready-to-wax finish (same story with Meg's M105 and some other aggressive stuff I've tried).
