Monte Carlo detail

Gotta love the supercharger. I know from personal experience. Did you get to drive it? They are pretty quick for being powered by a buick engine.:up ;)

eh, no pics of the powerplant

I have one of mine though ;)

thanks for the kind words fellas, and yes i got to drive it. not bad, i like it :xyxthumbs

No, what you do is take out the ducting out of the airbox, so its like ram air.

Oh, now I get it. It's so silly of GM to put that ducting in there to remove the "ram air" effect. I understand that chrome valve covers also produce additional horsepower.

my buddy has a 99 GTP, with a functional ram air hood and slp air box, K&N, u-bend replacement and borla exhaust. oh yeah and a 3.25 supercharger pulley.

not too shabby. ;)

No no, what GM did was put in a duct that is like half the size of the throttle body. It doesn't allow the supercharger to pull in enough air, causing KR. It just allows the engine to breathe better.

Um...now I get it...you cut a hole in the air box so it would no longer muffle the intake moan and sound like you did something. Did you ever wonder why the intake to the air box is smaller than the outlet...could it be that the pressure drop is across that, um, pleated thing...um, what's it called...THE FILTER. When I was 15, I turned the air cleaner cover over on MY father's Buick...made it loud, but it didn't GO ANY FASTER, because the air has to go thru the same place (THE FILTER). Do you really think that all those powertrain engineers at Buick would be so dim as to just accidently put too small an intake duct on? ("D'oh!! We strangled our blower again!")

PS What the heck is KR?

PPS Sorry about the sarcasm.

Man, you're dumb. No offense. Buick engineers are going for performance when designing these cars. They're going for fuel economy, and emissions. All this does is allow the engine to breathe better. Doesn't hurt the engine in any way, since the air still goes through the filter. I drew a diagram so you can understand:rolleyes:

Um, no offense, but if the Buick engineers weren't going for performance, why did they bother to put that supercharger on there? And in your diagram, you still show all the air going thru THE FILTER, which is where 90% of the pressure drop in the intake system occurs. You could take off the whole front half of the airbox, and I don't think you would see much airflow increase. Now if you are using a non-stock filter element, that might be a different story, but you didn't mention that.

Anyway, sorry for being so dumb. Would one of the moderators close this thread already?

:argue

man you guys are like a bunch of kids. MY thread should not be closed or locked because you guys can not agree on anything. who cares if he took off the baffle for the airbox. does it directly affect you ??

WHO CARES

Sorry, you are absolutely right.

I myself am not trying to be a j@ck@ss but we are all here to detail cars, right ??

just thought i would make you guys go to your neutral corners and shake hands :xyxthumbs
