Mold on floor mat

Hello fellow Autopians. I REALLY need some help with a problem I'm having. A while back my mom had her car cleaned by a "professional" detailer in Florida. Apparently, this guy cleaned the floor mats using the old scrub and hose down method. This is not a bad method I know many of you do this. However, he did not extract any of the water afterward. He just put the mats back in the car. Well, my mother didn't know/didn't care and just left them there. :scared: Not long after some mold grew on the passenger side floor mat.

Now it's my job to get rid of it.

I pulled the mat out of her car tonight. I sprayed it with some bathroom cleaner containing bleach. I'm hoping this will kill the mold colony. I figure a bleach spot is better than a moldy rug. I let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then I scrubbed it and hosed it off. The mold still seemed to be clinging to the rug. I cleaned the rest of the mat with Folex and then sprayed the mold with the bleach again and scrubbed. This time I'm going to leave it overnight. Do you guys have any other suggestions for cleaning up this mess?

Well I just checked on the floor mat. The mold still seems to be stuck to the carpet. I'm wondering the mold has in fact digested the carpet somehow. Any suggestions you guys can offer would be appreciated. BTW . . . the rug is now slighly bleached out in that area.

Sometimes mold will leave stains in fabric. So you might have killed the mold but the stain isn't gone. Last year when the hurricane hit our house got into a little trouble and my mom's room got wet and the thing that dangles from the bed box got wet and moldy (I don't know what it's called but it covers up the bottom of your bed). She washed it several times with bleach and the stains stayed so that might be your problem.
