Mitchubishievo: Another huge transformation with a White Evo....150 pics 56K get away

Background: I met the owner last year at a fun filled Redline Time Attack. We had plenty of memories come from that day, and I hinted he should come up to Chicago sometime for a detail, jokingly of course.

Fast forward to last Februrary, when he PMed me about getting a tune froma local here in Chicago. I replied with what I though he should do, and dropped the detail bomb again.

Fast forward to tuesday night. I get a call from Taylor that he's left St. Louis and is a mere 5 hours away . He makes it over here at 9:30, and crashes at my place for the night. The next morning was an interesting one.

I started out preparring (before pics, products, etc.) for his detail around 9:30 am. Washed the car, engine bay, door jambs and then cried when I saw what was ahead. But so much for even getting started...we decide to go get his car tuned before it's detailed, so we set out somewhere around 1:30. To make a LONG story short, the wastegate spring was set at 27 psi instead of the 18 it should've been. But this took a long time to figure out/fix. After all is said and done, it's almost 10 pm. We get back, and I decide "Screw it, I got over 3 hors of claying to do, I'm doing it now".

Claying took OVER 3 hours and 45 minutes to get it to where I have it now. It's 3 am on thursday (my b-day too) and I decide to finally call it a night.

I'm up at 9 am the next morning, and witha total of about an hour in breaks/receiving phone calls, I finish the car at 7:30 at night.

If I was gonna work on my B-day, I was hella glad it was for Taylor. I got his stuff done, and gave him some bonus fixes .

Here was the Process:

-Wash with gold class/warm water in bucket, sheepskin and hot water rinse bucket (Two Bucket Method).

-Clay with FK1 425 as lube

-EX-P/Finishing Pad/Speed 3

-Wenol Red, Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish, mircrofiber and #0000 steel wool for really bad spots for the Exhaust

-Plexus on headlights/taillights

-Original Armorall on Tires

your polish was so aggressive that you polished the enkei NT's to the stock rim! hahaha looks great man! i really do feel bad for that evo though, theres no way in hell I would let my car get that dirty. awesome transformation man!

what mk. is the other evo in the garage? don't know too much about them, but i like the bumpers on the other one better. thats a crap load of work man, nice job and happy bday

Not to sound harsh, but the dash and seats look very streaky. How did you apply those dressings? I think it would look a lot better if you used a bit less 303 and dry buffed them a bit more for a satin look as compared to a shiny/gel look. Also, the seats look like they might have needed another round of conditioner as they look spotty, streaky, and dry in some areas.

Again, not to sound harsh, just some constructive criticism. Great job on the paint.

Yeah I totally agree on the interior. I guess I should have mentioned we were in a rush to finish up and let him get going home (had to drive home to St. Louis). I used more 303 than you or I would've liked because it's a "god knows when" situation as to the next time the car would get sucha treatment.

I should mention the shots were taken right after dressings were applied and under 1000 watt light, not the kindest.

Great job. Terrific improvement. Huge transformation. I just hope it stayed moderately clean during the 5 hour trip home.

That's my own evo :grinno: . It's also a IX like the one I detailed, but it's the "MR"

It has a JDM (japanese) rear bumper. A lot of high dollar parts as well.

As a car enthusiast I do not understand how other enthusiasts let their vehicles come to that condition.

Nevertheless great job with the cleanup! :bigups

I bet you did pee your pants when you saw all the contamination on the paint. Was there still rail dust on the surface from when the car was new?

I'd also call that a great way to spend a birthday! You did something very enjoyable while helping a friend out... :goodjob

Very nice work....hate to see a car like that get so dirty, but each to their own I guess.

On the headliner....did you just wet the micro fiber and wipe it down or did you spray it on then wipe? I'm always leery of doing the headliner....

When he had it tuned, what did the dyno numbers look like?

Sprayed onto the microfiber then wiped gently.

It was a road tune, but easily 350whp, 380 tq.
