Minivan vs Finish Kare & OCW

My parents were in town over the weekend to celebrate my B-Day, so I decided to clean up their mini-van.

It has 80K on the clock, and sees a tunnel wash about once a month. They tar and chip many of the roads near my parents, so there were plenty of rock chips, and tons of tar to deal with.

Process Used:

Wash:

Poorboys Bug Squash & SS&S

2 cans of terminator (removed about 70% of the tar)

4oz of Poorboys clay. Used bug squash 3:1 mix & a cap of SS&S as lube, and it worked well on the tar.

Tires/Wheels:

A2Z and S&R, dressed with BnB

Wells:

Costco APC 3:1 mix x 2 (and they still look dirty)

Paint:

Finish Kare 330 mini-buff @ 1400 (x 2 on a few areas)

Finish Kare 303 Glaze @ 1200

OCW x 1

During my rinse down process, I noticed that the 2 x OCW that I applied to the van last Christmas was still showing signs of life.

Looking good. How much easier does Bug Squash make bug removal?

Ben

Rinse the car, pre-soak bug squash/water mix, let stand for a few minutes, and the bugs wipe off with little or no pressure at all. This is a very good product IMO. Works well on fresh tar/oil stains too.

Probably the wettest looking minivan I've ever seen! :)

I'm not at all suprised-anymore-that OCW held up that well.

mgm121499- Great job! And yeah, it was nice of you to do that for your folks. But it bet it was sorta enjoyable too...just looking at the before/after pics it strikes me as one of those jobs that must've been pretty satisfying.

Thanks.

Yes, it was satisfying. My father is disabled, so Mom has to 'do it all'. She's too busy to keep up with the vehicles. In this weather, detailing has been good exercise! The heat/humidity has been killer. It was close to 90 degrees at 10pm last Friday night.

Since I only see their car/truck a few times a year, it gives me a chance to try out different product combo's and have a look at long term durability. I was shocked that OCW was still beading on the surface because that van went through an extreme winter & spring (They live north of Columbus Ohio).

I'm planning to re-do the roof and hit it with FK #218, and top with #2180. I'm curious to see how it holds up against water spots, bird crap, and general exposure.

Awesome job!

Can you elaborate a bit more on the 330 mini buff? I received my FK order yesterday and I got a 4 oz. sample for free.

Any info on it would be helpful. Thanks.
