Mild vs. medium clay

In what situations would you use a mild vs. medium clay? I might be working on a friend's '99 Mustang (blue) and the paint hasn't been cared for very well. It's never garaged, always exposed to the elements 24x7, and not regularly washed. The paint has some oxidation.

When I tried using some left-over Clay Magic, it took a while to get the surface smoother, but it left some of this brown grit on the clay. Quite disgusting.

Would a medium-gray clay be required for such heavily-neglected surfaces?

If it took you awhile with clay magic "blue". Bump up to a more aggressive clay. Just be sure to use finger tip pressure. Because using a lot of pressure on an aggressive clay can cause micromarring.

The brown junk you saw were probably the containments that were lodged in the clear.:bolt
