Mild engine degreaser...??

I decided to finally clean the engine on my 98 MB C230 last Sunday. I mixed some greased lightning degreaser about 50/50 with water...sprayed down the eng and lightly agitataed with a soft paint brush. Let sit about 10 minutes and sprayed with cool water....light misting of 303 and after 5 mins a wipe with rag. Is there another product I can use that won't leave white deposits on the bare aluminum??...maybe a citrus based degreaser??

Give Poorboy's Biodegradable Cleaner a try next time. I used it in my engine compartment full strength, but sparingly, agitated with a soft brush, and rinsed. No residue and everything looked great.

Meguiar's APC+ seems to work good on anything I use it for. Depending on how much dirt/grease you had/have, a pretty mild solution is all I use. 10:1 seems like it works for everything., but usually I don't have a severe cleanup problem to start with.
If I remember correctly, Megs' recommends 4:1 for degreasing with APC+.
Simple Green seemed rather hard on things the one time I used it so I haven't used it since. Seemed to dull some painted braces under the hood. 50/50 was the solution I used, too. Definitely too strong for my use.

Thanks Charles. Just bought simple green and was looking for a ratio to use but it l;ooks like 50/50 might be a little strong. I have seen Megs APC+ in any othe stores I frequent for supplies. I suspect I could find it at one of our sponsors site's huh?

My last gallon came from Premium Auto Care. (Dwayne)
You can probably find it at an autobody supply store locally.
