Midwest Winter Cleaning Suggestions

Well, now I am starting to get concerned because winter is quickly approaching here in Indiana (getting down to the 30's in the evening) and I am debating how to keep my brand new 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX as detailed and clean as I have all summer. I have no problem washing the car when it is cold outside. But what to do when it gets to freezing and there is snow on the ground? I just got done rebuilding my detached garage so I have a place to store my baby, but I will still have to drive her in the winter and eventually the snow (eeek!). I have been bathing her in Klasse AIO and SG to prepare her for the winter, but I am going to dread leaving salt and snow on the surface! Is there a safe way to get this crud off of my paint when it is below freezing? Will lukewarm water and car shampoo in my garage work or is that a no-no on a cold car? Using a hose outside when it is below freezing is dang near impossible because the water just freezes up in there.

If anyone that lives in similar conditions as I do and is as picky as I am about the condition of my car has suggestions on what they do in the winter I would appreciate hearing them.

I am unfortunate enough to live in the snow belt as well. I just go to the local "blast-o-matic" and wash there. Don't use their brushes though, they will scratch!!! :down :down

Are those blast-o-matic self car washes safe? I mean there is a WHOLE lot of pressure there and the soap they use is probably some sort of strong detergent rather than a safe car shampoo. I just question whether it is better to leave salt and snow on the car until it warms just a little or go blast it? If you blast it and drive home, it is likely to freeze also....

I can tell that this winter is going to suck! I am going to be worrying about my car all the time.

Go to a car wash that uses the "Wind-Tunnel" drying system. No one with dirty towels trying to dry your car and it comes out close to spotless. Drive through car washes also rinse off the underbody of your car, which gets coated with salt.

If you do use the blastomatics try one that claims to have heated water. Never leave salt on your vehicle. Once water hits it, it is deadly to metal and your clear coat. Like you said if it is too cold, the water does freeze, I have done this myself. You could try the Water Blade to push it off of your car before it freezes.

Do a search on winter. Many posts will come up on this exact product. The only solution to winter car care is to buy a second car.

And that is not an option for me at this point with the threat of layoffs every day.
