Microfiber towels

I have heard it all now Which ones are the best micro fiber towels? The ones made in the UsA which I cannot find, Made in China from Costco 16 pac for 16X16 for 10.00 or made in Korea that Meguires sells for $70.00?
I was down at a BMW dealership and the microfiber towel they were selling was made in Germany for $20.00. They were also selling Klasse All in One Application & Sealant for $24.95 per bottle.
But they told me the ones made in Korea are the best and the Costco microfibertowels Which are made in China are better than the ones made in Germany.. :confused: :confused:
 
I think alot depends your intended use for the cloths.

The best I have used for final buffing and wax removal are the DF Concours towels made in the US. http://dftowel.com/ They are a bit expensive though. You can buy them at http://www.premiumautocare.com

Second best for buffing are poorboys velvet smooth http://poorboysworld.com/microfiber.htm

For general purpose cleaning and polish removal, most any of the ones that sell for around $3-4 a piece work well. The cheaper ones I've used just don't work as well. I haven't noticed a country of origin that matters.

I expect you'll get some other opinions and recommendations around here.
 
here is what has been my experience on MF towels. i used to be one of those people who used old shop rags. then i moved up to towels from the bath room. then it was old baby diapers(washed of course). then i moved on to 100% cotton. then one day i was in Sam's Club and saw the special of twenty towels for $7.50. then it was towels from a package of Menzerna products. then a few from Mrguiars and the last came from specialty motors from californiac. they all did the job. they all did the job better each time and for me the most expensive ones were the free ones because you get what you pay for. i am not an expert as some of you are but it has been my expeience that the good quality expensive towels help cover up all the old marks made by the cheap ones. so aside from expensive polishes and waxes. not counting the PC and all the pads. oh and i must mention the halogen lights/stand and the stool and creeper that i have purchased. i must not forget all the wash items such as sponges, sheep skin, microfiber mits, and buckets(2 no less). the micro towels that are available are the bast money spent yet.
 
My experience has been this, shop around. Example I have the same exact towel from three different places: $1.56, $3.40, $5.99.
 
Don't buy from your BMW dealership. Those prices are FREAKING inflated. The Meguiars microfibers are good. The costco ones, or Sam's etc, in my opinion are perfect for the grummiest work. I've noticed they feel invaluable, the stiching sucks, and they bleed like crazy.

The Korea vs China idea really depends on which manufacturer you get your microfibers from. Usually the Korean microfibers are more liked since they do have better quality standards.

If you have money, grab the Meguiars pack where I think you get 20 microfibers? And the cheap Costco pack. You will be able to use the costco's for very dirty work and throw em away. Use Meguiars for all your paintwork.

Unless you're going through a ton of MF towels as part of regular detailing for a living, considering they last pretty long, I'd pay up.

The 12-pack from Autogeek is also good. Otherwise, paying up for the Poorboys or Meguiars offers seems smart. You want MF towels with 90,000 or more microfibers per square inch -- many of the "cheapos" don't have that. On an older car, junkier, eh, maybe it doesn't matter. But on anything new or valuable, I'd only want to use the best, myself.

Why worry about $20-$40 a year in annual MF towel costs, right?

Yes I agree with you on don't buy from the dealership or any dealership for that matter. Meguire's was selling the micro fiber towels for $70.00 but they are made in Korea :eek This can be confusing perhaps I should leave it up to the CD scratch test before each use of whatever microfiber towel I get. :confused: :confused:

Yeah, like the blue 16x24 "drying" towel that Viking sells for like $10 each, and www.exceldetail.com has the same ones for ~$4.
 
I'm not oblivious to cost, either, and I respect those of you who do this every day and have to watch the $$$.

For me, though, I don't mind paying a few extra $$$ to PAC or PB or Autogeek since they make DetailCity possible. And I appreciate being able to post or email Poorboy or Dwayne and have them responsd pretty quickly to our sometimes petty and irrelevant and duplicate questions. So while paying attention to co$t$, don't be pennywise and pound foolish....support our sponsors, they deserve it.

Again, JMHO. No offense intended to any of you who shop around.
 
The way to save money on MF is to find and buy from the MANUF or IMPORTER and not buy from the jobber or broker who adds on there %..That is why you get the same product with all the different prices.I don't blame anyone for doing this but with all the supplies we buy we have to watch our pennies.At the end of the year it adds up to big dollars.The same MANUF who brings in to the country 10,000 MF at 1.15 landed when its all said and done and he is selling to whoever your price can end up being $4.25 when everyone adds on there piece of the pie
 
Winner's Circle has 16x16 plush MF towels that are of equal or greater quality to Cobra towels ($8) for just under $2 each. Their waffle weave is not bad either for $5.

Excel Detail has excellent towels with fair pricing. For $3.40 or so each you get a 16x24 VERY plush towel (opposite side has a much shorter pile), hemmed edge, and overall very high quality.

You do not have to spend $5-15 for a quality towel. Shop around as there truly are deals that seem too good to be true, yet they are true.

I believe the towels I mentioned are all from Korea, BTW.
 
The Autogeek 12-pack (4 blue, light blue, and green MF's for buffing and detailing) sold for around $50 when I bought mine, so just under $5.00 each.

PAC and other DC sponsors run specials all the time. A bigger towel might cost more, but the all-purpose detailers or buffing MF's should be $3-$5 each, tops.
 
I have bought towels from all over and still don't have a "favorite' yet. I actually hit a search engine and bought some very good towels way cheap. They work very well. I too, think the sponsors are very valuable. So I am absolutely certain that they are making plenty of money off the products that I buy. So buying towel from a MF wholesaler doesn't make me lose sleep at night.
 
Actually I second the ExcelDetail MFs but at least some of the ones I just got are from China. Tremendous value and great service.

I like Wayne's plush towels for all around, Cobra for interior work, Ultrafines from PakShak (not expensive with a discount, A+ service) for buffing, Sonus Detailing for wax removal and Sonus WW for drying, and Costcos for rough work.
 
I just got some from SpecialtyMotoring.com
I hate them, these are the ones that roll over themselves when youre wiping down..very bad..And these are the ones that grip onto your skin if it's dry..
As soon as I opened the bag and felt them..I was upset..
Dwayne has some of the best that I have used..
 
Exceldetail has great prices & towels and Patrick provides outstanding customer service. I have towels from there that seem to be identical to my Sonus buffing and polishing towels from Autopia and a very nice gold WW drying towel.

I also really like the Sonus towels, but they are a bit pricey. The 20% microfiber discount does help to offset the price. I have the buffing, polishing & detailing towels plus 2 sets of drying towels from Autopia.

The Cobra towels from Autogeek have really grown on me. At first I really didn't like them...and I really preferred my Sonus towels. With a few washes I have really come to appreciate these towels and now use them for exterior work. Each time I buy a kit I get a few more. They just seem to get better with age.

The Poorboy's towels have also served me well. The Mega Plush type mf has been great and I have also enjoyed the WW drying towel, mf mitt and have come to like the glass towel - thanks to AWD330 for the tip to use it with a light glass cleaner like 1Z and to use it for final buffing with heavier polishes.

I have 6 of the dark green mf towels from PAC that came with the leather kit...I mainly use these for interior work and have been happy with them for this use.

As other's have mentioned I have some cheaper towels from Target that I use for wheels and grunge work...there's no point in wasting your good mf. These are perfect for engine detailing and using Trim Restorer in crevices.

One of these days I'll have to order some from Wayne's & PakShak...I've heard lots of great things and seen the goods thanks to SilverLexus...my first impression is that the praise both have received is deserved.

I want to get some PB MF towels....is the glass cleaning towel -- PB's or anybody's -- REALLY different from the detailing/buffing towels? Does it really do a noticeably better job than other towels on glass I have 1Z but the only time I didn't streak my glass seems to be when I used EX-P !!

I could barely tell the difference in the Autogeek 12-pack between 2 of the polishing/buffing blue towels...and each of those wasn't noticebly different from the green detailing towels (a bit finer were the blue ones).

Not sure about the PBs ones, but SMPs glass towel $3.49 is totally different then any MF I have. It's kind of a silky material, lite blue in color. With Stoner's IG a couple of swipes and it's gone, no streaks nothing, amazing towel.
 
I use the green Cobra towels on the outside glass and then buff with the PB glass towels. SilverLexus has the Cobra glass cleaning towel and it seems to be his favorite today.

The PB glass towel is fairly thin, light and velvety...if you don't like this kind of towel it would be a mistake to try it.

There are several different styles of glass towels...with plusses & minuses for each. Some people like the really smooth glass cleaning towels like what I clean my glasses with...I don't like them for my windows...the nice thing is that there are 4 or 5 styles out there.
