Microfiber everywhere!

Has anyone else noticed that within the last year or so, microfiber has really gone nuts! I was in Home Depot today, and saw that they even sell mf towels now. :think:



The thing that really has me thinking is that the newest craze in furniture is........you guessed it, microfiber. A few weeks ago, my fiance and I were shopping for a new sofa set and everywhere we went was mf this and mf that. We all know mf is great for towels, but is it really preferred for furniture??

Boy you ain't lyin about that. What's even worse is now you have to be an expert in Textiles to sift through the hype about whose products are softer, absorb more, and won't scratch.



I actually have more Mf's and WW's than bath towels.



So when quest's come over to spend the night and need to shower guess what they're gettin? :)

MorBid...I was thinking of using the plush ones for dinner napkins...but back to JDookie's question, I think the reason we're starting to see MF on furniture is because it's soft...there used to be a synthetic suede that they made jackets and prolly furniture from called Ultrasuede...I bet that was MF, too.

It's funny you guys say that because the first thing that came to mind when I sat in it, was Ultrasuede. According to the salespeople, their pitch is that you get a *suede like* feel and look, with added comfort and dirt/stain resistance. Sure, it's a sales pitch, but we know that mf can't absorb dirt which is why we use them, but again, is this even a factor when dealing with furniture?



I've got a feeling my fiance is going to come home with one of these things soon, so I need to figure out if I want one in my house or not. :scared:

Sorry, Setec, I had a brain fart. Don't know what I was thinking. :hide: I actually have it backwards, which makes my question even more important now.



Microfiber picks up, and pulls dirt in, deep in between the polyester/polyamide fibers. Microfiber also has very high liquid absorption rate. After saying this, I am starting to think that a microfiber couch would be a VERY bad idea. Am I on the right track now, or did I brain fart again? :o



You can't *wash* a couch obviously, so it's basically going to suck up all liquid and dirt that it comes in contact with, effectively becoming one of the biggest dirt and filth magnets ever. :nervous:
