Microfiber Bonnets

I've been placing a microfiber towel on the bottom of my PC pad to remove the haze after using Meguair's Gold Glass. I was going to buy a few covers - what the selling sites call bonnets - to make it easier to remove the wax residue, but one site said their bonnet wasn't effective for that chore.

Should a microfiber bonnet be able to remove the wax haze off a car when used with a PC? So far so good using it on top of the PC but eventually it does bunch up a bit.

Also why did we get stuck calling them bonnets?

Yes a MF bonnet is designed to remove the wax from the car instead of using a MF towel by hand.

Bonnet - "A hat with strings that tie under the chin"

I guess it's similar in that it fits over the PC pad like a hat, and is secured to the pad?

Couldn't give a better definition.:D

My guess is that the MF bonnet will load up quickly if there is much wax to be removed.

IIRC, those things have been called bonnets for a while. What would you call it - a MF polishing pad cover?

I love the white MF bonnets I got from Pakshak. After using them I don't know how I lived without them. I don't use them to remove polishes or SMR's. Mostly sealants like NXT, Wolfgang, etc.

I also tried some of the Ultimate MF bonnets from Megs and they are nice as well.

I use one bonnet for half the car. Turn it inside out and finish.

:up

You may need several to complete a car.

I use them for product removal all the time, both with the PC and the Cyclo. I greatly prefer the motions of moving the machine around over the motions of buffing off the product manually. Plus, I like the idea of all those orbits-per-minute.

Seems you have to do it both by machine and by hand, though. If you do it by machine first you'll often need a final pass by hand. If you do it by hand first (leaving just a little product on the panel), you'll often see a little better gloss if you "burnish" it by machine to get the last of the product off. FWIW, I usually do it by machine first and then follow-up by hand.

Be careful with the Viper brand ones, they're not the softest things that'll ever touch your paint. OK on some paint but not on others.

The Meg's bonnets seem to work fine for removing both polishes and LSPs.

The Maxx suede-style bonnets from the Autopia store worked great on sealants but don't seem to be available any more :(

The Ultra-Suede ones from TOL work fine will all LSPs that I've tried them on (sealants and wax).

I *did NOT* like the Griot's bonnets at all, sent them back.

I haven't tried the DFTowel natural-fiber MF bonnets but they oughta be great.

I use mine over foam pads (not over wool) and I don't turn them inside out when they get loaded, I just get out another one. Plan on needing quite a few of them, especially if you put your products on thick.
