Micro-Restore Detergent

Do any of you guys use Micro-Restore Detergent? I've been washing in laundry detergent, then rinsing in vinegar. Do you notice any difference with the mico-restore detergent?

There are some people who use it,and think it is great, but i am not one of them.I used a type of Microfibre Detergent several times last year, and i can honestly say that i think the products are not worth it

I didn't notice any benefit from using the stuff over a good quality liquid washing detergent.I do think that rinsing in vinegar is a good thing,i rinse twice in vinegar after the wash cycle, just to make sure that no trace of detergent is left in the fibres as it tends to make them 'stiff',or feel a little hard.

I tell ya a method I used last time around. I added 1 capful of Calgon to the washload. Really helps loosen deposits, etc.....

Its worked good for me. Some of the WW that I used to dry were repelling water after using WAUD type products. It has brought them back although it takes a few washings.

I use Micro Restore and it leaves the towels cleaner and softer than any other product I've tried. I'm sold on it.

It works better for me than anything else too. I can't explain *why*, and I even like the arguments why it shouldn't work better....but seeing (and feeling ;) ) is believing and it made a dramatic differcence for me. I still use vinegar in the final rinse though.

I use Charliesoap for everything, even my families clothes. Sometimes when my wife would leave the clothes in the washer for a day or two, they would develop a musty smell, but since I have converted the wife to Charliesoap, we dont experience that anymore. We actually started washing the clothes in Charliesoap first, then decided to wash the MF's as well. Great stuff........I mean MF's are one thing, but my families clothes are another.

Listen to this man. I buy it by the gallon, and mow through it . . its realativly cheap when compared to other MF specific detergents, and my entire Cobra MF aresnal has seen over 50 + washes, and not one of them has a stain.

Soft sides of the MF feel just like new, and I have never encountered and micro-lint when using micro-restore as a soap.

Don't anybody take this as a :argue or anything, but rather as just a YMMV caveat:

I got a few 5 gallon jugs of the Charlies, thought I'd found something really great. After a few weeks my wife complained that the laundry wasn't coming out as clean as usual, and sure enough some stuff looked downright dingy. I tried adjusting how much I used, etc. but things didn't start looking good again until I switched back to regular detergent :nixweiss

I have no doubt that my machine/water/something is to blame, but the Charlies just didn't work out the way I'd expected it to :nixweiss It works a bit better in the garage washing machine (compared with the one in the house) but it still won't match the MF-targeted detergents under my conditions.

Am I missing something?

I used micro-restore the other day and it did not clean all the stains. I didnt really examine the enire load (needed to get things done:grinno: ) but the little I did see, seemed to perform like when I use woolite in the wash. Note, these were ww towels that I have been using for a long time and not brand new ones, So the stains were there before.

Lots of mixed views/opinions on this one

For those who use it... will it "RESTORE" the softness of my MF's that were never washed in Micro-Restore Detergent?

I haven't noticed a significant difference with Micro Restore vs. Regular "Free" detergent. This is cleaning towels that saw all sorts of polishes/waxes/dirt.

In my experience once you have washed and dried a towel it seems to "set" the stain and makes it very hard, if not impossible to get out. A better test would be with fresh stains.

I really like micro-restore, but I haven't found it to be a miracle worker on tough stains. The MF that was cleaned in this test, would not come clean for me with just micro-restore. For those I do a separate load with some APC, a double rinse with vinegar, and then another wash with micro-restore (double rinse with vinegar again). That might be a bit overkill, but it seems to get my really dirty towels pretty clean.

If I have some really bad towels I also try to soak them in a bucket with some Dawn, APC, or pad cleaner while I'm cleaning up. That and a good rinse helps keep the worst/loose dirt out of the washer.

It might, but the biggest factor is to rinse them until all soap residue is gone. You can do that by using some vinegar in the rinse cycle, and then keep running them through a wash (w/o any soap) and/or rinse cycle until the water stays clear (no sudsing).

I don't have a problem with getting a clean rinse, but I've been using M-R for at least two years. I have heard of some who had to run through double digit rinses before all of the old soap residue finally rinsed out. Another option, is to boil them for about 10 minutes to release old wax, etc. that might be clogging them. It will not melt them, but some colors might fade. After you get them soft and absorbent again washing them in M-R should help keep them that way..... it works for me.

What Eliot Ness just posted :xyxthumbs

FWIW, when repeated washing without detergent/rinses/etc. didn't soften up my older BBT WW, switching to the MF detergent *did* soften it back up. But this is sure a YMMV situation.

I typically wash my microfiber immediatly following a detail, where all the crap embedded in the towel is fresh, and not dry or set. I wash on hot with 3 cold rinse cycles, using the properly dilluted.

I have noticed that when washing other peoples MF, that have sat for long periods of time in a bucket, that even with micro restore and a scoop of oxy clean that the stains dont come out.

Before using microrestore I was using purex, a cheap, free of everything liquid detergeant. It worked very well, but had trouble removing some polish/wax residue from my cobra indgo's . . . .

other, more expensive detergeants may work better, but you already have micro restore, i would give it another shot. . . .

DITTO! big time! Try Charlies, no need for a specialized detergent.

Im only concerend about residue, as opposed to stains on my MF's. The stains are obviously just a cosmetic thing when detailing, unless your detailing a high end vehicle. Then it may be in your best interest to have some new or stain free towels on hand for obvious reasons.

Accum, strange how one machine cleans better then the other!
