When you are doing a one step with mf pads are you guys generally using cutting or finishing pads? I know there are a ton of variables involved in this answer. Without getting a ton of in depth answers I'm simply curious which one you use more in a one step correction?

Alsa, Does anybody use the 3" mf pads

Not to avoid your question, but for a 1-step polish, I am using foam. Microfiber, in my experience, leaves very light micro hazing, regardless of the pad type.

I love the 3-inch microfiber pads.
 
On an AIO use foam rule of thumb. It finishes so much nicer then MF. I did get nice results on the in laws Honda with MF and an AIO. I use Black Optics MF and it finished out really well.
 
I've used Megs 5 inch cutting disk with d300. It didn't look like a show car finish shine wise but I achieved 90-95 correction on a badly swirled car. Zero polishing induced swirls and couldn't see any micro marring or da pigtails. This car was badly damaged from a machine wash. It took me 12 section passes with a PC to achieve correction. I tried a orange pad with pf2500 first and that didn't have near the cut I needed. Attached picture the right side has been corrected.

For me I've found that a green foam pad with a light compound with menzerna PF2500 does a good job for removing light defects and finishes pretty well. Size I guess depends on panel, usually anywhere from 5.25 to 6 inch unless it's a tight spot. If you must use microfiber pad, I would use a finishing pad.
