MF/Cotton Blend Wash mitts? Pros/Cons?

I found a really good deal at the local Costco - 5 wash mitts for $10.

The mitts are a combination of Microfiber and Cotton. What are the pros and cons of these materials? Will they scratch my paint/cause swirls due to the synthetics?

The way I look at it, we use MF to buff our cars so I don't see why it would be bad in a mitt.

I'm interested in your opinions.

Thanks!

Depends upon the quality of both components.. the MF material and the cotton. The nice thing about "high quality" cotton is that it rinses a lot cleaner, where MF fibers tend to hold on to dirt.

Remember, you "get" what you pay for. That price sounds "too good to be true"... and probably is. :(

Yes, but you don't buff a "dirty" car. With a wash mitt, you are dealing with dirt.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I would fear that. Also, not saying you can't get quality stuff cheap, but that price seems just a tad too low to ensure indeed the material is quality cotton and MF.

We generally use good quality MF to ensure no scratching most importantly but also no linting and great longevity.

If it's a chenille weave, it may lint like the dickens as well while machine drying.

If it is a "typical" MF weave like the towels, for washing it just doesn't have that nap that 100% cotton chenille and real sheepskin have to trap any dirt particles and lift them away with abrading the finish while lubricated with car wash solution during your washing process. That's why I've stayed away from even the best quality pure MF mitts. Just my personal preference and as always, the disclaimers: to each his own and "your mileage may vary".

I bought some of these mitts to give them a try. They have a looped nap with a thicker fiber twist than 100% cotton chenille. I am currently trying them out for use with QEW and so far, I have pleased with the results. I have checked my results after a QEW wash and this mitt with my xenon light source and with a lighted microscope and can't find any marring thus far. So far, I've only tested light soiling. These mitts would be fine for interiors as well IMHO.

I've tried these mitts as well. I've only used them a couple of times, but they seem to work well. I'll probably throw them out after a few washes apiece though.

i would not throw them out but retire them to your wheels and tires or wheel wells. Also im sure they woudl be good for undercarriage work.... if you have long arms that is.
