MF applicators getting dirty

So I've noticed a few times that my applicators are getting dirty when I am applying AIO, and sometimes with UPP, to my car. Do you think it's a washing technique problem or is it a claying technique problem? Or am I way off base and this is normal. :nixweiss

AIO is a chemical cleaner an will remove contaminants and oxidation from your paint as you apply it. Even a good wash and clay will not remove 100% fo the junk on your paint. That is a good reason to use something like AIO as a base.

Most products will get a bit dirty if your applicator contacts any rubber trim, and sometimes plastic trim as well. Cleaners and polishes in particular will have this problem.

Pure waxes like Paste Glaz and Nattys have never given me problems when applying them directly to plastic. But I have several applicators that have black on the outside edges, because I got a little bit of product on the rubberized trim on the edges of the windshield/windows.

even after claying, my pads still get some grey on them when I use a paint cleaner with them. As Zippy said, claying isnt going to get EVERYTHING off.

Claying removes above surface contaminants. There are still below surface/ingrained contaminants that a chemical cleaner or polish will remove and contaminate your applicator.

The applicator getting dirty when used with UPP is a good indicator of the solvent-action of even non-cleaner products.
