Yup, it's a Datsun. It is getting shipped down to a concourse event, and will be judged with the white gloves, and graded out of 300 points. Although this car come to us fairly clean, a good amount of work was needed to get it looking perfect.

I started by nibbing a few dirts out from underneath the hood, and sanded the paint down flat. For this I used a d.a. sander with 1000 grit sandpaper, and finished with 2000 grit.

The entire underhood was then polish using a mini buffer with 4" pads, starting with purple foamed wool using Menzerna Power Gloss to cut the sanding scratches, followed by Menzerna SIP with orange CCS pad, finished with Menzerna 85rd with a white CCS pad.

A Trizact 3000 grit damp sand with a d.a. was then performed to remove any scratches, and provide a beautiful leveled finish, followed by a 3 stage polish with purple wool and Power Gloss, SIP and Orange CCS, then finished with 85rd and White CCS. I then cleaned with HD Cleanse, and topped with Vintage wax.

Car goes up in the air for complete underside detailing.

Back side of wheels were pretty dirty.

Steam cleaned.

Sealed with Nanoskin Brake Dust.

Underside cleaned.

Exhaust cleaned and polished using Collinite Metal Wax.

All the buttons, switches and things were pretty grimy on inside. Cleaned with 1Z Deep Plastic, and protected with 1Z Plastic Protectant.

I spent roughly 10 hours just detailing the engine compartment.

Thanks for looking.

Wow, Now thats perfection!!! Not bad for a rookie! :nana: Jon outstanding work on a very nice car. Incredible work my friend. :rockon1:

NICE WORK!!

This is what Autopia is all about!: Extreme detailing :D I've never actually seen an *under*hood sanding and polish job like that, let alone all with small pads. Must've been hard work!

Undercarriage details rock! I don't feel so weird now stating I'm looking into a product and technique to regularly go over my complete exhaust pipe--to remove mild discoloring and the like. Collinite Metal Wax user here too- but it's kinda best as an exhaust detail LSP on my car. When I find something that can remove all the tarnishing and I follow with the Metal Wax, I'm going to post some shots and report.

Gotta love the steamer!

Great results, certainly you've just raised the value of the car significantly! Thanks for sharing! :bigups

Thank you very much. I had 50+ hours into this one. One of the more tedious details I've done in a while, all the brushed aluminum was very difficult to get perfect. You had to clean with the grain of the metal, and couldn't touch it with bare hands as the oils could stain it.

Wow, that is a labor of love right there. I've always loved the older Zs. That thing is a beautiful specimen and you have definitely done it justice. Stunning.

Flat out incredible work! What kind of steamer do you have, I'm looking to pick one up this year. Thank you!

Spotless. Probably the cleanest car I've ever seen. That undercarriage and engine bay are flawless. Simply amazing, John.
