Metabo Rotary - Tell me more....

I would like to know more about this tool.

I currently have a DW849. Other than the metabo weighing a lot less, what are the main differences? Is it easier to control, more balanced, etc.... Just trying to decide if it's worth 3 bills and change.

If Gonzo does'nt happen to see this thread I would PM and ask him. He can give you the lowdown on if it's worth it for you...

Metabo is not as powerful as a Makita, which is a good thing for a rotary in the hands of an inexperienced person. I had a Makita first and did well with it (no booboo's) but it is so danged heavy. By the end if a 12 hour polishing marathon, my knuckles were dragging on the ground. I can work for 12 still safe!.

I use it using the same pads (exclusively LC 7 1/2", yellow, orange, white and gray) as on my PC and all work well, even at speed setting around 4 - nothing in the paper work about what RPM that is. If and when you get it, get a couple of pad-centering tools as well, because if the pad isn't almost perfectly centered, the vibration will drive you nuts.

Now-a-days, I only use the Makita for serious cutting on horizontal surfaces. I think you will enjoy using a Metabo. It was worth the $300 +/- to me just because I don't get totally worn out. At speed 4 using a LC gray with FP puts down an awesome shine on paint!

Type Metabo in the search window at www.topoftheline.com.

I love the light weight, maneuverability and build quality of the Metabo. It's a great little tool.

What you might miss is the DeWalt's trigger speed control. The Metabo has a dial speed control like the PC's.

PC.

Thanks for the replies!

Hmmmm, This has me thinking.....

I'd probably sell my DW849 and replace it with the Metabo. I'll check and see if the Edge2000 rotary pads work with the metabo. That would take care of the pad centering/vibration issue.

If possible keep the DW. You'll want to go to this for heavy cutting and it's also great to have one rotary set up for polishing and the other for finishing.

Makes the work smoother, less pad changing.

Gonzo was hooked on the Metabo as soon as he saw me use it.....I could see the glimmer in his eye:eek:
