Which should I get??

Metabo is a little smaller and a pound lighter. Makita is a little cheaper and HIGHLY regarded around here.

What are your opinions?

Thanks

Jim

I choose metabo, mainly because of its light weight. I can polishing in hour without being so fatique like when I use my old black and decker..

That way I still can focused in polishing instead of thinking to quick finishing because of exhaustion...

I have a makita but I'd buy a Metabo today.

I have to agree with Thomas. UPS just delivered my Metabo on Monday. This Metabo replaces my old German FLEX 602 rotary polisher that I used for well over 10 years.

I also have a Cyclo with velcro backing plates. I'm getting a UDM orbital as soon as they are released. And I will most likely pick up a Makita rotary as well. I look at all of these as quality tools. Each one has its particular place.

I just love the feel of the Metabo - both ergonomics in the hands and lighter weight are a delight. Really looking forwards to trying this baby out.

I plan on picking up a Makita as well. I just love quality tools.

P.S. Thomas - I love your posts and photos of your detail jobs. Excellent work bro.

Cheers.

I have a Makita. I've had it for years, and I dont know if the metabo was out when I got mine or if I had just not heard of it. It seems like a lot of people love the metabo, but I'm so used to the bail handle on my Makita, that I dont think *I* could go to the Metabo.

I guess my opinion isnt really worth much since I haven't had experience with both machines; however, I never find myself thinking.."This makita is so heavy I cant stand it."

I like my Makita due to the trigger that the Metabo does not have. I use the trigger to vary the speed quite often, for small areas, start up, etc. I would miss it if I just had an on/off switch and a knob for speed control.

That's my feeling as well. I wouldn't want to be without either the Makita or the Metabo (or the PCs or the Cyclos). Yeah, we're talking a bit of money, but IMO it's like having numerous wrenches instead of just one Crescent wrench. IF you can get by with less, cool. But it sure is nice to have just the right tool for the job.

Choosing between the Makita and the Metabo is something I don't think we can do for you, it's all personal preference.

On the trigger/none issue, I thought it would be a bigger deal than it is. The more I use the Metabo the less I even think of it.

Buy the Makita. I have both and I like the Makita varible speed trigger better than the on/off of the Metabo switch. And for the price the Makita You can't beat it. I use the Metabo as a back-up for when I need two machines.:buffing:

I bought the Makita b/c it was only 1lb heavier than the Metabo, but $75 more. I could buy alot of products for $75

So does the Makita have a two step or progressive trigger?

Progressive.

Note how vwgtivw prefers the Makita, Totoland Mach loves the Metabo, and I go back and forth between the two. This isn't a cut-and-dried case of one being better/worse.

I have never owned or used a Mikita, but I have used a Hitachi for a year which is lighter then the Mikita. Now I have a Metabo that you can have, when you pry it from my cold dead hands. ;)

I just got my Makita in the mail today, and it is a fantastic feeling machine, I cant see the Metabo being much better than this one, and for $170 shipped with a cool Makita Bag, it's hard to beat that deal.
