Messed up paint inside, please don't open :)

Oh my goodness! On the passenger side rearview mirror housing I burned the paint in a 2 inch by 1.8 strip and totally ripped off the paint in a 1 inch spot.

Its not as bad as it looks. 1000W spot lights seem to magnify things. I am more careful about this rotary than even. One slip up and I burned the molding. I am depressed but hey stuff happens. It doesn't look as bad as the scuff next to it though. Some moron at Walmart skid his car along the housing.

Here is some good news though. I removed about 95% of the swirls in the hood. I documented the front fender of the passenger side and passenger side door. Here is a before and after. The after is done up with Menzerna IP with foam cutting pad and followed by a foam polishing pad and Menzerna FP.

Wow, These 1000 watt lights are unmerciful. They reveal every flaw and magnify it. I must be doing something right besides burning plastic trim paint ebcause 95% of the swirls are gone and a high gloss finish remains without any buffer marks of halographic swirls. 1000W of light should reveal the flaws with a rotary buffer right?

Ouch! That poor Corolla! Eh...mirrors are going to get knocked off sooner or later right? :)

BTW, the improvement on the door panel is incredible! It looks absolutely stunning! :xyxthumbs

Thanks!

Update, did hood with Menzerna twins

you get the idea now right? Rotary for fixing swirls = good, but at a cost, one slip and lots of four letter words coming from mouth.

Here is the Passenger door. The picture on the far right is with the flash and shows the real color of the car.

Moderators - Do as you wish when you wake up. You may put it into the bragging room if you like. Just wanted to show Autopia what one slip on a rotary can do to painted plastic trim I had the Makita at 1100 RPM's.)

Nice :)

Again, why haven't I gotten a PC or a Rotary yet? I don't know...maybe the thought of my wife strangling me as I try to explain the purchase is a deterrent...

:lol

Nice looking work regardless Jason. :)

Thanks Andre, FoundMyPath, and 4DSC!

I dawn washed the car about 2 hours ago and degreased the engine. The first coat of the new Z5 with ZFX is sitting on the car inside the garage. I will allow 30 minutes for the Zaino to dry.

I also have the mobile air conditoner running in the garage to keep it a nice cool 70 degrees F. The dehumidfier is kind of busted so I ran the A/C instead (not really hot, just a little humid/muggy in there.)

Looked at the paint in the sun while washing it with Dawn. The swirls were not as noticable as under the 1000w halogens and I didn't see any buffer marks. Besides the little slip up, I'm happy with the finish. Now all its needs is upkeep with Z6+7 and a few coats of Z here and there.

Some after pictures to come soon.

Hey, buddy, even the best of us have screwed up. :( But the good you can do WAY out weighs the bad.:nixweiss

Maybe you could use some touch up paint and take out those two spots. I mean they are pretty big and it might be hard to get it to completely blend in but it'd be better than those white and black spots :)

I'll leave it as is, plastic can't rust. I'll slap on some clear coat to protect the rest ofthe paint. I'm not going to worry about it, in 2-3 years a 5 series will be there and I'll be driving the Corolla :)

Thanks Jim and Ranney!

I did a complete detail on a Tahoe today along with a wash and Z5 the Blue BMW I did last year (Zaino held up great), and Klasse AIO with a rotary on a 2002 Buick Century followed by Sg by hand. More Bragging later in a new thread, My fingers need to recover.

WOW!!!!

Nice work Jason.

The reflections you have from that new Zaino look sweet, but than again it's all in the prep work.:bigups

Thanks Andre. I think the new Zaino is supposed to be easier to buff, but for me, its actually been harder on polished on finishes. Must be my batch of the stuff. So I just Z6 when the Zaino dries. Makes everything super easy. I'll be getting some more Zaino within a few weeks.

Update

Since the Z5 with ZFX. I gave it a coat of Z5 and let it sit overnight. I buffed it off and Z6'd prior to taking this picture.

since its looking nice now, my godparents are afraid of driving it in the rain!
