Mercedes E 500

First brag. I've never really taken pics step by step or at every angle, but do have some nice ones. I'll try to put some up in the near future. Just did this '04 E 500 Blk/blk, 35K miles. Car was heavily scratched, swirled and streaked.

After prepping and claying, and some wet sanding (not on that door), used 3M rubbing compound on a buff and shine wool pad (on a Makita wheel at low to moderate 800-1200 rpm), followed by the same compound on a well used SM Arnold finishing pad (snap on wheel at 1100-1300 rpm), followed by 3M foam pad polishing glaze on an SM Arnold black slotted glazing pad (snap on 1100rpm), followed by ECP micro glaze worked in (SM finishing pad at 1100 rpm) and burnished off (same pad 1400rpm), then finished with collinite Marque D'elegance.

I hope this works. I've never posted pics before.

Enjoy

Excellent job! Believe me, I know how hard you had to work to polish out a black ceramiclear paint job.

Any chance you can post up some daylight shots?

In the first pic it's hard to believe that this is called a scratch resistant clear ;)

Looks good after!

Great work. This is from someone who knows your pain as I have an E500. You have shown me that patience is a virtue with these cars as many steps are required.

That color is Diamond Black, isn't it? Very pretty, and a super turnaround, based on what you had to work on.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

I take off all the side trim, licence plates and brackets, hood ornament and trunk star. Makes for a more uniform buff (and less trapped polish later). All this, and all those steps take so long that there is no way that I can get a pic of the completed car in the light. It is getting dark here on Long Island by 4:45 now. I'm lucky if I get a car done by 7pm. Lets start something to get them to stop turning the clocks back!

I do have a bunch of others from this past season in the light that I'll post.

The car is diamond black, but I don't think it is ceramiclear. If it is, it doesn't matter because it weathers like any other black clearcoat.
