Mercedes Benz Day...

Clean Dean

Keep it clean !!!
Started at 6:00 AM Tuesday morning and did not go home until the sun went down !!! Tired was not the appropriate word. I did 3 three full interior/exterior details on these ...

1991 Mercedes 560 SEC....

1999 SLK 230 Kompressor. I do not particularly like this roadster, because it is a bit under powered. But it really looked sharp in this red/black combo...

My most detailed car in 03,04, and so far this year. I detail these E320 E420, 430 so often I can detail them blindfolded. These cars are great buys, due to their mid-size and their surprising reliability. This was a E300 Diesel, which means it will survive the next ice age !!!

I was sooo beat after this long day of detailing. But did I love it? YOU BET I DID !!!

Looks great:xyxthumbs . Time for a bud light!

I'd say at least 3 :)...1 for each Mercedes...Or actually, since they're German, grab a Grolsch!

All the cars look amazing...just dripping wet! Lightning is dripping salt though eh ?

What did you use on the wood trim? It looks to have an exceptional deep gloss to it :D.

Nice job on the cars! Were they owned by the same person?

I think Grolsch is from Holland :D

Maybe a nice dopplebock to warm you up?

BEAUTIFUL work Dean!! :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

What type of products and process did you use??

As an aside....

Glad I am not the only one using a Lightning as a detailing work horse... :D White is one of the rarest colors for these trucks....is your's an '01 or an '02??

What part of Monmouth county are you in?? My folks lived in Manalapan for about 10 years.

Very nice... what are the processes on the interior and exterior. Those interiors look brand new..never touched.

Are both of those yours ??? I absolutely love my 01 Lightning !!! I bought it in November with 11k miles. She was like new when I got her and have since put on about 8k miles since. I searched for months for a white one.

As GSRstilez noted, I have so much salt on her and have to wash her twice weekly.

I will post my int/ext products and process later tonight.

1 Clean WS6 ...

I am from Howell, NJ and I am originally from West Milford. My wife is from Manalapan and lived off Gorden Corner Road until I forced her to marry me.

Small world.

Dean...the silver '02 pulling the detail rig is mine and the red '00 is a regular clients. They really are great trucks and you have yourself a RARE one!!

Small world indeed!! I honestly have to say that that area of NJ is probably the nicest in the whole state. Lot's of horse farms, meadows.....and Englishtown Raceway Park. :xyxthumbs

splattj.... On these E300 Diesel I used Knights Spray Nine, Compressed Air, and an assortment of brushes to clean out the dash and interior trim. Be very careful with Mercedes Benz Tan (Parchment, Java) trim, because if you use too aggressive a cleaner it will bleed and fade. I use Auto Magics New Car solvent to remove all of the shoe scuffs on the entry plates. NEVER use anything like acetone or lacquer thinner on the plastic trim on these interiors. THEY WILL FADE !!!

The dash, door and center console were dressed with Stoner's Trim Shine and buffed with a MF towel to lessen the shine and give a more natural new look to these surfaces.

GSRstilez... The wood on all three of these vehicles were in very good condition, and I used AM's Seal-It to give them a good quick shine.

The interior was vinyl and although it looks and feels very similar to leather it is less prone to wear. I do not know what Mercedes calls their vinyl these days (most likely leatherette), but in the 1970's and 1980's it was referred to as "Mercedes Benz Tex". This material was superior to leather IMO because of its durability. I have detailed low milage E-Class Diesels from the early 1980's and their original Tex is free of wear and tear that is common on leather (especially the bolsters). I used Auto Magic's Vinyl and Leather Cleaner on this material, and used a squirt of Spray Nine and agitation where needed to remove any stuborn residue on the vinyl. I did not dress the vinyl whatsoever, and found that dressing the vinyl seating leaves it looking cheap and slippery.

All three cars were clayed, but I admit they were washed before my arrival. Cleaning the wheels indoors is an incredibly dirty task and I went through about 15 blue surgical towels during the wheel cleaning process.

The paint on all three cars were buffed with Meg's DACP and an Edge Green Pad followed by Meg's SFP and a blue pad prior to sealing with Four Stars UPP. I topped all three cars with Auto Magics EZ Paste Wax, because of its ease of use and it deepening look from the carnubu in it. I would compare EZ Paste to Meguiars #26, but even easier to remove !!!

The hood of the E300 Diesel needed some wet-sanding with 1200 grit followed by 2000 grit to remove some serious orange peel. The hood was repainted and some paintshop neglected to complete the job properly. I buffed the hood with a yellow wool pad and High Temps Heavy Cut Leveler prior to the DACP+SFP treatment mentioned earlier.

Ben Z... All the cars are owned by a small high end auto dealer that specializes in low milage European, collectible and antique cars. Yes I really enjoy detailing for him !!! I have detailed some absolutely incredible car for him, and have driven most of them also !!! :D

SilverLexus... The white stuff can only be described in one word. NIGHTMARE !!!

Wow, didn't know Manalapan has such a presence here!

1 Clean WS6 -- Unfortunately with Khov, Toll Brothers and Hallmark Homes developing McMansions all over the place, the beautiful open space along 527, Tennant/Woodward Rd, and Rt.33 are going by the wayside :(

Ughh, whats wrong with you guys? LOL! ;) I have 2 Lightnings a 93 (custom painted red and black) and an 02 (red) and neither has ever been a daily driver. Some poeple......... Just joking.

Had my Lightning a month when I told my wife I am buying a black one in the future. That one will be my "showcar". What I would do to it...

1. Reprogram chip.

2. Cold air induction.

3. New pulleys

4. Custom flames airbrushed.

BTW... Any thoughts on the SRT-10 Viper truck. I haven't had the opportunity to take her out yet, but I droolled all over her at my local Dodge Dealership.

I just can't convince the wife the new crewcab model makes a great family car.

;)

LightngSVT...

BTW... Nice set of rides !!!

LightngSVT that's the beauty of the Lightning trucks. A regular old F-150 (albeit with reduced towing and payload capacity) for work but a sweet land sled when not "working". The Lightning gives me the pleasure of having a bad toy AND a work vehicle. It's a hell of a marketing tool as well.

Besides I don't know how well my WS6 or Z06 can tow a trailer. ;)

tribblez I haven't been back that way in 10 years or so. My folks lived off of RT. 33 and I remember all the open sunflower fields there...a shame if they developed them.
