Mercedes AMG C3 and Audi S4 with Opti-Coat

2012 Mercedes AMG C63. Owner recently picked it up from the original owner who lived in San Diego. Unfortunately, the paint's condition made me wonder if it had been up north or maybe to the mountains because it looked like someone used a broom to brush snow off it. Lots of diagonal scratches across the hood. The owner wanted as many of the swirls and defects removed as possible within reason (no wetsanding, or spending 6 hours on the hood) and was considering having me apply Opti-Coat to it.

The sun wouldn't cooperate this morning with regards to capturing swirls/scratches on the hood; you can see them if really look.

By the time I got to the sides, I had more sun.

The hood took several slow passes with Meguiars M100, a Meguiars MF cutting pad and my Rupes 21 DA. The PPG Ceramiclear paint is pretty hard!

After M100 and 3D Polish

By the time I finished polishing, the owner had been able to leave work and stop by to check on the car. He was really happy with the amount of defect removal. The car isn't perfect, about 90% corrected, but it would probably take at least twice the time I already had in it to get the last 10%. And the owner felt for a daily driver (and I tend to agree), that the condition it is in now makes chasing perfection not worth the additional time and cost. He said plans on keeping the car about a year, and really didn't want to have to wax it so he was leaning towards Opti-Coat. The other option would be to have me come out in 6 months and go over the paint once with a polish and seal it again and that would save him a little money over applying Opti-Coat. But then that means he'd have to have me out one more time after that prior to selling it. He then looked at my Opti-Coated car and said "that's the look I want". :) Opti-Coat it is!

ONR wash, Opti-Raser mild to clay

Optimum Power Clean @ 3:1 dilution and ONR to clean wheels and wheel wells

Meguiars M100 using a Meguiars MF cutting pad and Rupes 21 DA polisher

3D HD Polish using an Optimum MF polishing pad and Rupes 21 DA

ONR Wash

Optimum Opti-Coat on paint and wheels

Optimum Opti-Glass on windshield

Armor All on tires/wheel wells

2013 Audi S4. Owner got the car a couple weeks ago, and contacted me about having Opti-Coat applied. Overall the paint was in pretty good shape except for some rotary swirls on the passenger rear door and the driver's front door and some light marring on the hood. Plus it appeared it wasn't washed very well, a good ONR wash got rid of all the drying streaks that were all over the car.

All this mess below to polish out a 1" long light scratch. The Audi dealer told him they had "a great detailer who works magic". If they mean someone who can take a tiny scratch and turn it into 18" of buffer swirls, I guess he works magic.

After Meguiars M100 and Optimum Hyper Polish:

ONR wash, Opti-Raser mild to clay

Meguiars M100 using a Meguiars MF cutting pad and Rupes DA to spot polish out buffer trails and light marring

Optimum Hyper Polish using an Optimum MF cutting pad and Rupes DA for the whole car

ONR wash

Optimum Opti-Coat on paint and wheels

Optimum Opti-Glass on windshield

Armor All on tires/wheel wells

Both cars came out fantastic! You have always been consistent with your work ever since I started reading your details some years ago.

Great job Scott. You love ONR, no water used at all on all cars. You must know how to use better than the rest because I see that you have figure it out even on black cars. Great work.

Uh...what are you talking about? You use water with ONR. And I am far from the only one who uses it on black cars.

Very nice Scott. Love the C63.

Thanks!

Scott I know you use water with ONR. I meant to say in a good way that you love ONR. I know a lot of people that swear by it. I like it too. It was supposed to be a compliment, no an insult. ;)

Pure perfection guys! Water blade on a dirty car or like you said broom! I've seen the same. Ceramiclear usually equals sickness! Lots of pressure and multiple passes. And black makes it worse. Turned out killer! Owner made the right decision with Opti-Coat. Gotta love any of the Audi "S" classes. Sexy cars.

The way you worded it "you used no water at all" came across like you weren't full aware of how ONR works. Anyway, yeah, I love it. Makes getting to the polishing a lot quicker. Plus less water running out of body seams, etc. Makes my life a lot easier!

Thanks Tim! I agree on how tough Ceramiclear can be but at the same time, it's a hell of a workout! Don't have to do any upper body work after polishing a Mercedes!
