Menzurna IP vs. Meguires paint cleaner (step 1)

Used both back to back and I have to say the Meguires paint cleaner (step 1) did a better job of cleaning up the paint and restoring a shine. I used a PC with yellow pads. The car is a 90' silver Miata which appears never to have been waxed or cared for.

My question is: How important is the second step in the Meguires process? I'm thinking about skipping to AIO seeing that it looks pretty shiny as is.....any thoughts on this?

So you used both on the entire vehicle and after the Meg's step it looked better? Or put each on a different section and liked the results of the Meg's better? From my understanding, IP is a rather highly abrasive polish, that is mainly for cleaning paint defects but still polishes. You would then want to follow IP up with a less abrasive polish. If you did both on the entire vehicle, that may be why the Meg's looked better, it enhanced the IP. I would think that you should be able to go directly to AIO now.

Sorry, my post was a bit confusing. I used Menzurna on one side of the car and Meguires on the other. I forgot to mention that I thought the Menzurna applied easier as it was a thicker product. The Meguires would shoot out everywhere unless I was really careful with the speed.

Do you guys really see a difference in the second step of polishing (ie: Menzurna FP for example)??? I've never really been able to discern any difference.

I remember reading Menzerna IP instructions which said you may be able to get away without FP on light colored cars (although FP was still recommended).

On darker cars it said FP is practically a must.
