Menzerna High Gloss QD smells like paint thinner

Wow, a big difference compared to the Sonus QD for acrylics which has the best smell. I was told by CMA that the Sonus QD for Acrylics is not compatible with the FMJ, I'm not sure what to believe.

Your opinions?

email from Phil @ CMA

Good enough is a relative term. In my opinion, those 2 QDs you mentioned actually remove some of the slickness from FMJ. Menzerna has finally come out with a QD called High Gloss Acrylic Shield. This stuff is REALLY slick.

I hope this information helps. If you have any further questions, you can reply to this email, or give us a call at 800-628-7596.

Subject: What QD goes with the Menzerna FMJ?

right now it's either the Sonus QD for Acrylics or Megs #34, are these good enough?

i live in the tampa area & stopped by cma to pick up some fmj just last week. phil, the gm, asked me if i had any qd & i specifically mentioned that i use sonus spritz. he said that would be fine.

i'd call cma, ask for phil & once again ask about sonus acrylic spritz being used in conjunction with fmj. for what it's worth, the two look pretty good together on my car (imo).

no, he just said that the Menzerna is the only one that will work with FMJ, I think his name was sean?

there's a jon at cma. i'd definately give them a call ... they're pretty good people. you may be able to get a credit towards future orders.

it's the one who answers the emails that told me that, too bad i deleted the message. and isn't sonus made by cma and repackaged by autopia?

Having just ordered 32 oz. of the stuff, and having had Platinum UPP as my favorite QD, sounds like I'm in for a disappointment!!

Well, at least I'll have plenty of acrylic QD on the shelf. How is the product otherwise, besides the smell?

jan has replied to any emails that i've ever sent cma. i'm gonna email them today & see what they say. i'm curious because i like both fmj & sonus spritz and (so far) like the looks of the two together.

Just once I'd like somebody to show me a picture of such "incompatibility". Or even (I dare ya!) the mythological "failure to bond".

Can't ride in my car with any of that sales pitch on your shoes.

here's the email reply i received from cma:

"Sonus is compatible with FMJ and was the best product to use until the

development of Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield. We have only had that

product about two weeks and it does produce a much slicker feel (which is

what customers were asking for)."

looks like either product should be fine.

Finally got mine in and was able to test it out. I don't think it smelled like paint thinner, though it was not as nice as some other products.

But, it did leave a finish more slick than Platinum UGE. The difference was significant enough to make me glad I have it just for FMJ. UGE buffs out slightly easier though.
