Menzerna FPII Question

Usually, I use FPII (PO87) as a final finisher before applying wax and I use a white CCS pad on my PC. What if the vehicle doesn't have any blemishes can I use FPII as like a paint cleaner with a gray CCS on my PC? One more thing, I'm running out of FPII and need more final touchup products for after polishing heavy, is the Final Finish PO85RD just as good as FPII or is it the same? and is it just as effective with a Gray CCS pad like a white CCS pad?

Menzerna PO87mc (Final Polish II) was the second finishing polish introduced into the American market by Proper Auto Care, and represented a signficant improvement over the original Final Polish (I) (PO87mf). It features very fine aluminum oxide abrasive clusters that have a very uniform primary crystal.

It is an abrasive product, although the abrasive rating would be low, that features abrasives that need to break down completely for the best finish. It can be used on a black (gray) pad as a dedicated paint cleaner and to increase the gloss. Keep in mind that the polish will still have to be worked until the abrasives have broken down for the best finish possible.

PO85RD was introduced after PO87mc and is a different polish that works very much the same. PO85RD has since been replaced by PO106ff (then 106fa) at the OEM level, although many detailers feel that PO85RD produces the highest gloss of any of the other Menzerna finishing polishes.

In terms of working ability, PO85RD seems to take a little longer to work in (compared to PO87mc), but it seems to spead even easier. I would pick up 85RD and give it a shot!

I love the PO85RD. It's tops amongst the best finishing polishes around
Because it's a polish designed to correct minimum very-light defects, and haziness, I would suggest using a white pad with it instead. That way you can achieve the best results......

Well I tried the the 85rd with my mikata and black CCS pad. I got to admit I have mixed feelings about this product. It blended in like a glaze and I didn't see it remove any light scratches. Not easy to remove the polish either. I guess the product is OK but just that OK! I would stick with the 87rd FPII to remove any light or webbing scratches and burnishes from the IP and the rotor buffer. I give the product a 2 out of 5 rating if your interested in purchasing this product save your money and buy the menzerna glazing product.

For me FPII has been easier to use than 85rd. Both are very good. FPII seems to remove easier and be less oily than 85rd, therefore making fpII a better choice if using as a "paint cleaner" type product. Thats just my experience. I do however give a slight edge to 85rd in gloss.
Disclaimer: I am far from being a pro, this assessment based on my limited experience only. :D

You found FPII to have more cut then 85rd?

Did you use it on the same exact car as the FPII?

I find that each product (however similar performing) seems to prefer different paints on occasion. In 90% of the cars the performance has always been very very similar to FPII, but as they say, not all cars are not the same. I would be interested in hearing your experience after playing with products side by side on a variety of cars.

I wonder if you just found on a car that didn't like 85rd? Of course technique, environment, and plain old personal preference play a huge role in what one likes and doesn't.
