Besides being happy about having a 3 day weekend, I wanted to thank the service men, and veterans who served this country to make sure we can enjoy our lives and the freedoms we enjoy in the good old USA.

Thank you for your service. :yourrock

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually in the United States on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries. Many people observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and memorials. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 pm local time. Another tradition is to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff from dawn until noon local time. Volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries.
For many Americans, the central event is attending one of the thousands of parades held on Memorial Day in large and small cities all over the country. Most of these feature marching bands and an overall military theme with the National Guard and other servicemen participating along with veterans and military vehicles from various wars.
One of the longest-standing traditions is the running of the Indianapolis 500, an auto race which has been held in conjunction with Memorial Day since 1911. It runs on the Sunday preceding the Memorial Day holiday. The Coca-Cola 600 stock car race has been held later the same day since 1961. The Memorial Tournament golf event has been held on or close to the Memorial Day weekend since 1976.
So I thank you and salute all who gave the lives for everyone here to be free and to enjoy what we all have. Happy Memorial Day everyone...:autopia:

Heavenly Father,

On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with Your strength and peace.

In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Enjoy your day! I am finally on vacation all week. :D

While I don't know of any family members who died in combat, my

father was in the USAF who served in Vietnam and later as an officer in USAF Reserves.

uncle was one of three US Marines from his battalion to survive the initial assault of Iwo Jima. He won the Navy Cross and Silver Star, but we don't what for exactly as he never spoke of it...

uncle was a Navy UDT (precursor to the SEALs) who served Operation Phoenix in Cambodia during Vietnam.

grandfather was in US Navy and US Army/AirCorp during WWII. He served in the Pacific as a gunner on a destroyer, and nearly escaped death during the Kamikaze attacks. He also served in Germany during the Berlin Air Lift.

uncle in the US Army, who served in Europe and was part of D-Day. He was short, and used to crawl into caves/fox holes looking for Germans.

brother proudly served as a Nuclear Operations Tech in the US Navy.

my career in the US Marines was cut WAY WAY WAY too short when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. However I had/have many friends who went on to proudly serve in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as other places.

Long line of military family you have there Todd. You must be very proud. Did not know you were a fellow Marine. OOH RAH leather neck! It doesn't matter how short or long your service was; once a Marine, always a Marine. Thank you for your service and the service of your family members.
