Meguiar's vs. Nero

The results are in, and I am convinced. I really do like Nero, but when compared to the Meguiar's, there's no question about who's matte and who's not.

Product Description:

Prima Nero is a water-based vinyl, rubber, and plastic protectant and dressing for both interior and exterior surfaces. The appeal of Nero is its finish: it's a concours-look with a matte silkiness on vinyl dashes and plastic trim. Nero leaves tires with a look of newness, adding almost no gloss. If you are looking for the glazed donut shine, Prima Nero is not for you. UV inhibitors help defend against sun damage. Prima Nero is detergent resistant for excellent durability.

Meguiar’s Quik Interior Detailer is the fastest way to safely clean all interior surfaces such as plastic, vinyl, leather, rubber, metal and even LCD and navigation screens. The gentle, high-lubricity formula deep cleans quickly lifting off dust, dirt, grim and spills restoring the original appearance of all interior surfaces.

The improved formula comes in an easy mist on and wipe off spray or premium, plush lint-free wipe. Both contain advanced cleaning agents that restore and protect the original appearance of interior surfaces, without leaving behind a greasy appearance.

With minimal time and effort you’re left with a stunning, well-protected interior that will look great for weeks.

Step One.

I cleaned the surface with APC+ (10-1) and wiped dry.

Nero was applied on the right side and left to dwell for the prescribed 15 minutes, then buffed with a dry MF towel.

Meguiars was applied with MF applicator and immediately wiped dry per instructions. This product should not be allowed to dry on the surface.

The Nero darkens the vinyl and the Meguiar's leaves it dull.

There seems to be two camps: one who like no or minimal change in look and those who do not mind darkening, tad extra sheen, etc.

I have used Meg's so I know it does not really change the look (au naturale) but did you buff the Nero much after it dried or overly wiped it down.

For example, I have a bottle of DP Protectant that is way too glossy for the initial application but if buffed down it looks pretty good ..similar to Nero...darken, little extra gloss/sheen...that is you know it is there.

Just looking at it from a non-detailer's point of view, the Nero side looks better. If I were paying someone to do work on my vehicle, I'd want it to look like something was done.

Not that I want Black Magic Cherry scented tire gloss "wetness", but the Nero looks good.

I've been extremely impressed with everything I have tried of the Prima line.

Bunky,

I waited 15 minutes and buffed the Nero with a few wipes. By that time it was dry and didn't change the appearance.

I too like the Nero look over the dull, clean look. But for those who wish to have the "nothing applied" look, Meguiar's is for you.

Detail Chick was looking for a protectant that didn't change the looks. Meguiar's may be it.

I've always been pretty big on leaving a "factory fresh" appearance -- which is why QID has been my go-to for years now.

thanks for taking the time to do this. Personally I like the no sheen, natural look, but only as long as the panel isn't faded. If it's faded I always use DP Interior Dressing and then buff off as much shine as I can. This darkens up the panel so it doesn't look faded very well. If it's in good shape I use UIGP and touch it up with QID when I do my bi-weekly cleanings.

I think Prima looks nice. Once the whole panel is done I doubt someone would notice unless they are like all of us. I prefer the untouched look myself but as long as a product doesn't leave a glossy finish I'm not complaining.

Most of my customers prefer the natural look, why I only use QID after cleaning (plus I like the smell after you are done). If they want shine, I use the spray Ultimate Protectant, good shine, not greasy.

Nice side-by-side test. I agree with the thought above that without the demarcation line you probably couldn't tell the difference as easily, if at all. There is a distinct reflection at the top of both sides of the panel, but I'm guessing that isn't necessarily indicative of excessive gloss or sheen.

Another point, Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer Cleaner will only provide a clean surface.
If you want to go for the wet look, you'll need to work with a dressing like
Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant......

The photo was taken in direct sunlight. In the garage, it's still obvious, but the sheen is greatly diminished.

The label says it provides protection and that it has sun blocking agents, which would indicate to me there's more to it than just a cleaner.

Nero definitely leaves a near matte finish. I prefer products like Optimum OPP which gives just a tad more gloss.

Megs QID or 1Z CP for maintenance.

Thanks Mr Gloss for posting the pics!:)
Im wondering though if its just the pics or does it look blotchy on both sides ?

DC,

I think it's just the intense sunlight that washes it out.

After DC's post and seeing it on a better screen, I think I see what she is talking about.

The Nero side looks less even (darker patches on the lower section of the dark part just above the lighter gray after over the door pulls). It may be the plastic itself is uneven. It could also just be how the lighting is reflecting..like being partially blocked.
