Meguiars Ultimate Protectant...Success!

Well, i finally figured out how, when, and where to use this dressing after many

failed attempts. Just gotta be persistent and think outside of the box. This is

a brand new vehicle (it has wheels) and the plastic hasn't been treated before.

A simple wipe down with Meguiar's APC (aka 303 cleaner) was all the prep needed

before applying MUP. Ok, on with the pics...

50/50 yall love so much.

Just a dime size blob was more than sufficient to cover half the bonnet.

Action shot.

Success! As you can all see, the coating is completely even with a brilliant shine.

:welcome

Ok, i did manage to do a decent job on my own car. Applied MUP like before but

waited a few minutes and wiped a mf towel to bring down the sheen a bit...

Detailing the garbage can........if my neighbors didn't wonder about me before, they certainly will after they see me breaking out the product on the garbage cans!

The UP looks good on the Infiniti's dash -- a trace of sheen, but nothing crazy.

Here's some questions:

1) Did you use Meg's APC full-strength or was it diluted and in what ratio??

2) In applying the Ultimate Protectant to the garbage can lid, did you wax-on-walk-away (WOWA) without any rubbing via microfiber cloth to "buff the surface" for a better shine?

3) Prior to using the Ultimate Protectant, did you need to shake the bottle vigorously to mix the product sufficiently and if so, how long did you shake it ? (Don't laugh! Some products like Collinite 845, require this.)

4) I assume using the foam applicator is better to apply the product than using a microfiber cloth or cotton terry-type towel.

4) When are you going to do some exterior trim on a vehicle with ALOT of plastic trim, like a Chevy Avalanche or Honda Element?? (Pictures, please,please,please,please......)

I had a similar first-experience like you on trim on a Chrysler Caravan. It was blotchy and did not darken the trim at all. It was very disappointing to say the least. I am now wondering if prepping the plastic trim (IE, cleaning it with an APC and then rinsing it) was the reason it did not "work" properly or if it was the application method of using a microfiber towel instead of a foam pad.

I've had better results using the much-hated-much-maligned Mother's Back-to-Black.

1) Megs APC @ 15:1 will work fine (smells nasty). But i used 303 @ 30:1 (smells slightly better).

2) Yes, it was WOWA on the lid.

3) Shook 20 seconds or so (i'm like really good at this for some reason).

4) Foam is better; doesn't absorb as much.

4) Hm... i really dont work on domestic vehicles or anything with lots of exterior plastics.

Exterior plastic trim...it's best to apply the protectant when the vehicle is new. You'll notice that it degrades

easily, especially on the top portions most exposed to UV rays. Same with paint, really. Not sure if any dressing

will do a decent job on worn exterior plastics. Black Wow and Mothers Back To Crap is a waste of money.

And, perhaps, MUP will be no different...we'll see.

Flastime,

I will give you an A+ for originality on the trash can. :2thumbs:

See.... some vinyl's likes to place nice and some don't. Now one more thing... I want to see how long that trash can will continue to bead up with water. Give us the ongoing report..:D

i promise not to wash that trash can. Maybe hose it down once in a while.

No time to wash but did a quick 303 wipe down on the trim and applied MUP. Looks good!

Big difference. If it holds for a few weeks then i'd be impressed. Getting better results now which probably has a lot to do with 303.

And a foam applicator pad instead of the cloth pad...

Thanks for pictures of the Honda Element(?) SUV trim.

When you say 303 I'm assuming the fabric/vinyl CLEANER, not the protectant (OK, it was as dumb assumption by Captian Obvious)

It's just that when you say 303, I think protectant, not cleaner.

As a side note to this, how does the 303 CLEANER compare with Megs APC in cleaning ability. You mention the smell, so I assume you've made a comparision and formed an opinion about the two. (There you go again, Captian Obvious! Which one is he using?! (the one that works better))

Captian Obvious will NOT make any comments about the condition of the black paint in the pictures because his vehicles look no better!

The cleaning ability is about the same. 303 products are hard to find locally, a friend came by and gave me almost a full gallon.

Meguiar's, on the other hand, is just about everywhere. Yes, the smell of Megs APC is harsh, especially using it in a not so well

ventilated area. 303 (the CLEANER) isn't nearly as harsh. Of course, dilution ratios will make a difference here. Both very good, really.

It's a Honda CRV. :)

Flash,

Not sure where you store you trash can, but if you can leave'er sit outdoors in the elements. I bet you get at least a month or more of good beading.
