Meguiar's No. 2 Fine Cut Cleaner

Why does Meguiar's recommend that No. 2 Fine Cut Cleaner only be applied using a high speed rotary polisher.

Why could I not use a Porter Cable 7424 with No. 2 Fine Cut Cleaner?

I've not used that particular product but if I had to guess I would say because the abrasives they use in it require a certain level of heat to properly break down. The biggest reason why the PC orbital is so safe to use is that because it does not generate much heat due to the orbital motion of the pad.

Hopefully someone with more experience than I can chime in and either confirm my theory or provide the correct answer to your question. Did you try emailing Meg with that question?

I've used the No. 2 with a PC DA. It's similar to FI-2 in some ways. I also believe the Meguiars vid on-line also has them using a DA with FC but it's been awhile since I've seen it.

Just make sure to work it long enough and you'll be fine. Follow-up with No. 9 as I didn't get as high a gloss to the finish as I would like to have after No. 2 alone.

The medium cut I would be hesistant against though with a DA.

I think DACP is very simiar to Finess-It II, but is a bit milder. #2 Fine Cut compound is not very useful. I have used it, and it's really not much harsher than SMR (which is a bit more aggressive than #9). I think of that line, the Medium Cut cleaner (can't remember the number, #3 maybe?) would be closer to FI-II.

Marty, in the future I recommend emailing Meguiar's USA with tech questions instead. That's what I do. It's not fantastic, but it's better than nothing. :)

PS: I think with the advent of DACP, the popularity of #2 (and the 3M equivalent) here is slowly declining. It might be still suited for more serious jobs where you don't want a product that breaks down as quickly though. Just my guess.

I threw away my fine cut cleaner. Better results for fine scratches, DACP is designed for both Rotary or Random Orbital, super easy removal, and it can be a one step process since it polishes as well.

Love DACP.
