Meguiar's New Tech Wax

Hey Everybody,

I am relatively new to this forum, but not to the detailing business. I own ProTouch of NJ a Paint Chip Repair and Detailing business that services Auto Dealerships here in NJ. I just got my hands on some of Meguiar's new Tech Wax (formerly known as Lab Sample 'D') from Barry Meguiar himself and spent two days with Mike Phillips learning all about it. My initial comments - All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Meguiar's has just raised the bar more than a few notches on everyone else in the industry. I have applied it to several used BMW's over at one of my larger dealerships that I do work for and will report back later on as to the durability of it.

It won't be officially available to the public until Feb 04' I won it at a charity auction over at ebay. (there is a second one going on right now)

I have pretty much tried/used almost everything out there on the market today from Ardex to Zaino - except Crytal Guard(never had the chance to get some), and in my opinion nothing is even close to this new product. If there is anybody close to Edison NJ that would like to do a comparison side by side testing of Meguiar's new Tech Wax vs. any other product, I would really be interested to see how it compares to all the rest in an unbiassed testing.

Sounds good, keep us updated on durability, I am from Edison, NJ too and want to see how it lasts through the nasty winter we seem to be having ;)

Welcome! I figured it wouldn't be long before the person who won the Tech Wax would register on here if they hadn't already. I saw your picture on the 2nd Ebay Auction. Congratulations for winning and I'm sure Meguiars and the Teen Foundation appreciate your generosity. Post some pictures of cars you have used it on.

:wavey Welcome to Autopia

Congratulations on the winning bid on E-Bay. We’d all appreciate an update on durability and the side-by-side comparison s on ‘the next big thing’.

Look on the Lab Sample D thread. Supposedly it doesn't need any surface prep other than a washed surface. Obviously any cleaner/polish before is going to help improve the surface.

Yes, that's what I was referring to , like certain cleaners/polishes..

RIght now I've got the 3-step Mothers system which works well, but very interested in trying that wax as a possible replacement for the Mother's carnuba..

NXT Tech Wax is intended for use on finishes in new or excellent condition. It is definitely not a cleaner wax.

If your finish is neglected, oxidized, stained, scratched, swirled, etc. then you need to use a pre-wax paint cleaner or some other type of pre-wax surface prep.

I have been testing this product on all types of surfaces just to see what it is capable of, but in all instances, just line any LSP, the higher the quality of the finish before applicaton of Tech Wax, the better the results.

This last Saturday I had members from the LAPD here at Meguair's with their personal cars for a how-to clinic. One officer brought his Torch Red Corvette which appears to have been repainted in some areas, most noticiably the hood. You could easily see the sanding marks in the finish that were not removed by the previous person when they sanded and buffed out the paint.

I compounded the hood with #85 Diamond Cut Compound using a W-7006 foam cutting pad, (followed by some other buffing steps), which removed many of the sanding marks to the point that only the deeper tracers remained.

We could have just applied the NXT Tech Wax and skipped the paint prep buffing steps, but.... that's not my MO.

Here's a picture of the results, the paint came out looking wet

Here's what the Corvette looked like before. This is an untouched photo, it has also not been resized. I just cropped out the sun on the finish. If you look, you can see the zig-zag pattern of buffer swirl. The whole car was like this.

The sun was setting by the time we were finished with the Vette so I couldn't get a sun shot off the back. Here's reflection shot for what it's worth,

Mike, that Corvette really look's good... Black Regal...the average salary for an L.A.P.D officer with a Bachelor's degree is between 60 thousand and 80 thousand dollar's a year..of course this is including mandatory overtime..Detective's make more of course higher rank..

Scottwax, in my limited testing, it does not seem to be picky at all.

Good, because I really like using Vanilla Moose as my final glaze. ;)

Have you tried a carnauba topper while doing your testing, David?
