Meguiar's Engine Kote

Anyone try Meguiar's Engine Kote? I've been using 303 in my engine comparptment, as its suppost to help preserve rubber, plastic, etc. Anyone have any experiences with this product?
 
Engine Kote works well IF you have the proper sprayer. The wrong spray nozzle will cause it to come out in large drops or globs which will dry and look different than the rest of the surfaces.



Having used Engine Kote for a month or two now I doubt I'll buy it again. A quality water based dressing (like your 303) should do just as good and it'll be one less product that you need to keep around. I will say this, Engine Kote does dry nicely to a hard, almost shell like finish. Still, not enough to get me to keep it around along with the other dressings I have.

I have also experience this with Engine Kote(looks like water spots after it dries), I bought the spray bottle CMA suggested.



Can someone suggest the correct Spray bottle to use??? :nixweiss



I like how it dries hard and dry to the touch but it looks like water spots all over the engine bay area.



Do not get over spray on the painted areas because you will need a cleaner wax or polish to remove it!!!!!!
 
I bought the Meguiar's spray bottle that is made for Engine Kote (meaning it has a label on it with directions and cautions, not that the construction is special), and one of their spray heads. It works well and sprays nicely. The bottle is D-9943 and the spray head I got was the chemical resistant one (only one they had locally) TOL 110542-12. The regular spray head is TOL 110516-12 and I would probably get that if you can find it. All together it was like $4, which is pretty cheap for a nice sprayer.



If you are getting spotting, a few things might help:

  • make sure you have a fine spray (a better spray head might fix that)
  • make sure you are getting full coverage. It's better to spray too much and have it run (the drips don't seem to show once they dry) than to have partial, spotty coverage.
  • try diluting it 1:1 or less with some distilled water. This way you can spray more without putting the product down real thick.
  • try spraying once with a not-too-heavy coat (it's ok if you don't get 100% coverage), then after it has started to dry up/ gotten tacky, go over it with a second application.
  • depending on what you are applying it to, you can wipe it on to smooth the application. You wouldn't want to do this all over the engine, but if it's just a few spots you are having trouble with, this can be helpful



Overspray on paint shouldn't hurt anything except for appearance. By which I mean that if you get it on paint inside the engine bay, it will just help protect it a bit. But I understand you wouldn't want it on any exterior paint. I really like this product. It's good for a quick (although somewhat temporary) coat on wheels if you don't have time, and gives them a great shine. It does a great job in wheelwells, and probably on the underbody (haven't tried that yet).
