Last thing I saw from Meguiar's I thought it was just a PC relabled w/ the Meguiar's Name.

I think they have multiple DA buffers now. Which one are you speaking about? A link would help.

The Meguiar's RO polisher is just a relabeled Porter Cable unit that many Autopians use. You can pay about $110 at Lowes for a PC 7336SP or $225.95 (Retail price) for the Meguiar's unit (Model #G-100A.) The only difference is that the Meguiar's comes with a few extra items (not worth the cost increase.)

The polishing pad has a little cutting power to get rid of minor imperfections. You can use it to just polish or apply products. The finishing pad has no cutting ability, so using a polish with it is useless. It's usually used to apply glazes or sealants.

F-150,

I believe itis the Porter Cable which Meguirs has private labeled.

Several companies do this now with the PC.

Buy the PC and save about $100

I bought my PC at CostalTool.com and the PC pad kit at CMA. All cost about $170 Its a year old now and not one problem. :xyxthumbs

The Meguiar's one is the same thing but has a Meguiar's sticker on it. I guess that sticker is very expensive!!!!! :nixweiss

PC 7424 at CoastalTool comes with a bonus kit now, with velcro backing and 6" counterweight, so all you need is good pads.

I'd pick the pads from CMA.

the price of meguiar's stickers, and Nike symbols is outrageous!

I have that meguiar's unit... the nice part is Meguiar's added warranty over what Porter Cable gives you... lifetime replacement warranty (includes their backing plate) versus a 3-year on just the machine. Thats about the only advantage I saw in it...

Warranties are good things to have "IF" they will replace your unit with a "NEW" unit and not a reconditioned one.

My mobile phone was going on the fritz and I pay each month like 3 bucks for a "replacement" program in case anything should happen to my Verizon phone. I go to the store and tell them my phone is going dead on me and they say,

"call this toll free number and they will replace your phone for a $30 deductible. You will be given the same phone if a reconditioned one is available and if one of your models is not available then a phone of equal value to yours will be Fed Exed to you"

So much for their "replacement" program. I dropped my service with them and went around the corner to the Sprint store. Read the fine print folks.

The only advantage of purchasing the PC from Meguiar's is the lifetime warranty. Any problem's that are not found to be abuse from the owner, Meguiar's will send you a brand new PC granite you return your used unit to them...BTW I rarely saw those unit's go bad to begin with...Just my experience...

Tks everyone!!

Now that I know what it really is I can save myself the extra bucks. I will check out and see what Blowe's(what I call Lowe's) has.

BTW, doesn't the PC come with bonnet's rather than pads, I much prefer pads rather than bonnets.

Tks again everyone

No, try clicking one of those links Green Monster helpfully supplied above.

ok now I'm confused about what to use with what pad!!

I'll explain this the best I can. When using a polishing with say for example, "mild" cutting action, what should you use.

Bottom line, what level of cutting action should you use with what pad. I.e, how do you know what pad to use with whatever cutting level the polish is?????????? That's the best I can do

F-150_91,

Click that thread on 4DSC's signature, lots of info on PC and pads!;)
Actually I'm sorry but I don't offer much advice, if any, about "what pad to use with what product" in that thread.

The best advice might be to match the pad to the product. You really have to decide if the product is "mild" or "somewhat strong" and then match it to a polishing or cutting pad. You should come up with some pad suggestions if you just read some threads discussing the products you're using.

OK, take a look at this chart that compares all different pads that CMA sells.

They have pads in 3 different categories.

Now take a look at their definition of compounds, polishes and glazes in this article with lots of products listed.

There are few more interesting articles at their site that should make your choices much easier.

Hope it helps.
