Meguiars #83 DACP and Haziness

I tried #83 DACP for the first time over the weekend with my new PC. I used a yellow CMA pad with the DACP

Using one small ring of product around the perimeter of the pad, I worked it in on a 2 ft. x 2 ft. area. I applied moderate pressure and decreased the pressure as I worked.

When I wiped off the near powdery excess, I noticed that the paint surface looked a little hazy compared to the unworked paint (using a halogen to really lighten it up). When I applied NXT (or #26) over the hazy area using a white CMA pad, the paint regained it's gloss.

The final results appeared to meet my expectations, removing a great deal of the swirls.

My question is simple: Is this normal??

Will the haziness reappear as the NXT (or #26) wears?

I apprecate any input.

Haziness with DACP is normal. You need to use a polish such as SFP after DACP. Unfortunately, the haze will probably reappear.

Yep, the hazing will probably reappear.

DACP needs to be worked a *long* time when using it with a PC (or by hand). Most people won't work it long enough. Sounds like you did better than most, though.

When using something like #83/yellow (again, by PC- rotary is different), you'll generally have to follow up with a milder product/pad combo.

Get some SFW, Menzerna FP, or something similar. Apply it with a white pad, *then* do your LSP.

From what I understand, yes this is normal. Some have been able to beat the haziness caused by 83 by working it in even longer. The minor cleaning abilities in NXT are most likely what cleared it up. Some folow 83 with something milder like 82 to clear it up as well. You should be fine imo, but others will chime in im sure:xyxthumbs

I've never had any trouble with DACP causing haziness. After I've completed using it with a cutting pad (Megs burgundy) I change to a polishing pad and go over the area again with DACP. This will remove any marring that was caused by the cutting pad. If I've still got time on my hands then I sometimes follow that with #9 on a polishing pad.

I don't think I would really call it "normal". It is actually caused by not using the product correctly. The abrassives in DACP need to be worked until they are broken down completely. If you don't do that haziness and marring will result.

It takes quite some time to break down the abrassives in DACP by PC and most people simply don't work it long enough. Typically you work DACP until it is almost dry. If you still have problems with it, it is a simple matter though to follow up with a less agressive product to remove the haze.

I also used DACP w/ Cutting Pad for the first time this weekend on dark green paint and I didn't get any hazing with my PC. I went straight to my LSP (NXT after DACP). It was my first time with DACP and I still don't think i worked it long enough because in some spots it never really would get to a powder. I am thinking either the pad had to much product in it or it was the humidity, but I still didn't get any hazing. I wonder why some people get hazing and some don't? Is it common to go from DACP to your LSP or do most do another step inbetween?

Just a note, the yellow CMA pad is the cutting pad, right? I'd say hazing with the cutting pad and DACP isn't abnormal. You might need to work it more, or more likely you'll need to switch to a polishing pad and DACP or maybe SFP.

I get a very faint but discernable hazing using DACP on black. I've followed up with FP and /or AIO and things came out fine. On other colors, I can't see any difference at all between DACP only and DACP/FP. I used Lake County orange for the DACP and CMA white for the FP and AIO.

There's a fine line on what is working DACP in long enough and too long. If you work it in till it's totally broken down, there should be no hazing and if you work it in too long, it'll dry out and the pad might induce some marring. Just takes experience and experimentation.

I always follow with a milder polish after anything more aggresive than SSR2/cutting pad. In my mind it makes the finish look it's best.

I got this from Meguiars webpage

.....Moderate abrasive power removes light to medium contamination. A touch more aggressive than Meguiar's Swirl-Free Polish, our Dual Action Cleaner Polish effectively deals with more significant stains, swirls, blemishes and oxidation. Its safe, Buffered Abrasiveâ„¢ cleaning action attacks defects while guarding your finish against scratches. Rich polishing oils ensure a memorable shine. Made For Professionals.....

Based on the above statement, DACP should not be leaving any swirls, right? It actually says that we are suppose to get swirl free and shiny surface, right?

Anyone care to shed some light.

Thanks

DACP isn't any different than a lot of polishes in it's class. If you use to much,an aggressive pad or not work it in long enough you may be left with a finish that will have to be followed with a milder combo.
