Meguiars 3" backing plate question

I've switched over to using the Megs MF system almost exclusively now for compounding, and picked up the 3" pads and the megs 3" backing plate for tight spots, pillars, etc. I'm slightly confused about the adapter system though. I have my GGDA set up with the 5" backing plate for the 5.5" cutting discs and foam pads to finish, so I'm putting the 3" system on my PC for quick transition. On the PC, I've found I can just use one of the adapters to directly connect the bp to the pc, but I've heard other people saying they've had to use the little extension as well. For you guys who use this system, how do you have it set up? Any pics of your setup would be appreciated too. Thanks.

You should have the thin washer that came with the PC between it and the BP.

Yep, I'm using the washer. I'm wondering about using just the 2 sided adapter by itself, or if I have to use that with the extension piece. I do have what I think is enough clearance without using the threaded extension,

This is what Im using. That black washer is actually the one that came with the BP, not the PC.

Excellent, that's exactly how I have mine set up now. Thanks for the pic. I wonder what that extension piece is for anway. Rotary maybe?

Glad to see I'm not the only one whose sticker is coming off the S3BP....
