Meg's Recommendation for Ceramiclear by PC

Hey all, this is basically a continuation of this thread, but with a far more focused question.

This is a picture representative of the damage on the car.

Anyhow, I know Menzerna makes a series of polishes just for the coating, but their stuff is quite expensive, and I want to see if Meg's (or some other brand that is more affordable) offers a viable alternative.

I've heard about the hardness of the clear, but apparently Mike over at Meguiarsonline found working on the coating to be easier than expected.

I'd prefer if someone who's worked with Ceramiclear give me a suggestion, since I want to just put in one big order, but any comments are welcome!

That's what I was leaning towards too. I was also going to try their OTC SwirlX and Ultimate compound.

I'm not specifically looking at Meg's, just something that is more affordable than Menz (about $10-15 more for 32 oz Meg, and $10-15 will buy me 2-3 days of food when you're in college!).

Any brand that is affordable and will work on the C-clear will do! I mentioned Megs simply because the Admin there mentioned how easy it was for him to use Meg products on C-clear.

The new consumer products (Ultimate Comound, ScratchX 2.0, SwirlX) all contain non-diminishing abrasives just like 105 and 205. All three are formulated to be applied by hand or DA but not rotary. Think of them in this fashion:

Ultimate Compound = 105, SwirlX = 205, ScratchX 2.0 = somewhere in between. They don't exactly correspond like that but it is a good generalization to get a grasp on what is what.

105 and 205 would both work great for what you are trying to do but the consumer products are in no way inferior and may be easier for you to get your hands on.

Ceramiclear or not, I would think the M105/M205 combo would work fine. It does have a learning curve though (at least the 105). read up on using 105 with the PC. The only ceramiclear I've worked on was in fact using Menzerna.

the megs ultimate compound and swirlx can be had for $7-$8 each at your local walmart (they are slowly starting to show up in stores). the ultimate compound did a great job on this pretty nasty scratch, done with several applications by hand...

^^ Yup, saw that thread on Meguiars online. I will go out to my local shops and see if they stock the UC and SX

dublife - what do you mean about the learning curve? I did a quick google search and didn't find anything relating to it

Thanks for all the help and recs, confirming what I've suspected. I suppose there's no real alternative brand besides Meg's is there?

The answer would be: NEW M105 and the newly released M205.

Just got #205 so I can't comment as to how it works on CeramiClear but #105 works great via rotary on it.

The new version of #105 is supposed to work well via PC too.

I wasn't aware there was so much to using the M105, I might have to be careful then. Anyone know if the UC behaves similarly?

I was using google's site function to search for 105

It isn't that hard. I got over the learning curve on my first attempt. If you read up online first, there is no reason you can't do the same.

Plus, you can just use the NEW formula of M105 and it won't have any of those issues, and offers the same cut and finish with a longer working time.
