Megs D-6200 Clay

I wonder if I am doing something wrong?

I was expecting the subject matter to take out contaminents that Megs's regular clay (A grey clay) or Mother's or Erazer clay could not. I find that does not seem to be the case. I use all three clays with a mix of Megs GC shampoo and water. I find that the Megs clay tends to become really soft and leave clay shavings, while the Mother's or Razor does not.

Moderator, please feel free to ask me any questions on how I used it to see if it is user error. I have used Mother and Erazer with no problems.

Have you tried using a quick detail spray or something similar instead of shampoo and water as a lubricant? I probably doesnt matter, but sometimes its the stupid little things that make the difference

Hi Malachi,

Meguiar's has three new clay bars out that are replacing all of the previous clays. Send me your shipping address and I'll send you samples. Then, after using them, if you feel so inclined, post your honest opinions here and on www.meguiarsonline.com

Thanks,

Mike

I tried but it still did not work well. Thanks and I agree, sometimes it the smallest of changes that make the biggest differences.

Your welcome,

I sent you some ColorX to play with also.

Thank you! I must admit that I am unfamiliar with the intent of the product so I will need to do some reading up. My neighbor has a car that I detailed for him and he has another that he said I can test products on (its badly oxidized).

ColorX is a Strong one-step cleaner wax. Works great by hand or with the PC.

Here's a before and after I did using nothing but ColorX and my hand.

I just figured while I had a box going out to you I would include a few extra things.

WoW:shocked

It looks like the perfect product to test on my neighbors truck.

Now that you have it to that point, what would you do to get to the next level? would you use #82 then NXT?

Oh... for a neighbor's truck that doesn't sound like it's getting the attention it deserves, I would probably leave it at ColorX.

If you want though, you could apply the Tech Wax afterwards.

Applying the #82, or any polish for that matter would be going above and beyond the call of duty, you know... an Autopian thing!

Your choice.

Do take a before & after picture if possible and post them here...

Mike,

I had received your care package earlier this month and today I was able to try out two of three of your new clays. The car I am working on may be considered a beater by Autopian standards.

Your Quik Clay (grey) was a HUGE improvement over the last one that I tried. It did not fall apart and was actually pulling some contaminents out of the paint. Congratulations for the product improvement. I would say it performed as well as my measuring stick which is the Mother's clay.

Now for your new agressive clay the C-2100. GREAT CLAY!!! Here is how I judged it. After claying the car with Quik Clay (BTW, I used it with both soapy water and QD and it performed the same), the paint still felt a little rough. So I brought out the Mother's clay and re-did the hood, roof and back lid to see if the Mother's would smooth things out better. It didn't. In addition, using the Mother's clay I began working on a spot that had another color on it, like the car had been run into by an red/orange car or some other object. Neither the Quik Clay or the Mother's clay would get the foreign paint off. I thought this would be the perfect time to test the "New" aggresive clay the C-2100.

I began to rub the new clay on the foreign paint and it started coming off :xyxthumbs I than began re-claying the top half of the car. The strange thing about the roughness of the car was that I could not see the contaminents, only feel them. After claying with the C-2100 the paint was smooooth. I felt the clay and I could feel the bumps on the clay but again, I could not see them.

So, your C-2100 clay is everything I hoped for when I bought the D-6200 (which failed miserably, you need to retire it). I commend you and Megs for the excellent customer service and improved products respectively.:bow :bow :bow

Now the beater has a better chance of standing tall.:bounce

Thanks again Mike.

Mike...I didn't like the earlier versions of Meguiars clays...hint, hint! ;)

I'll have to snag some bars next time I am at my distributer.
