Megs #16

I found some of this at the local Napa. It is supposed to be discontinued in Canada so I thought I would pick it up and give it a try. The problem is that it looks pretty old. I opened the can and the wax looked cracked and chunky, nothing at all like my s100. What is #16 supposed to look like?

I phoned Megs Customer service and asked how long #16 was good for. I was given two different answers from two different people.:rolleyes(common occurance with Megs I'm afraid). One person told me #16 is good for 7 years the other said there was no best before date.

I asked if there was a way I could tell when the product was produced, some kind of code on the container or something. The guy tells me it is hidden and I would need a black light to find it. Is this clown serious?

Take it out of the can and warm it in the microwave, if it makes you feel better.

I'm quite sure it'll work just fine.:xyxthumbs

Just put a coat of #16 on my car this afternoon, it looked just the way you described it, cracks and all. Just rub you foam pad around the top a bit and it starts to soften up. The car looks great so I know it working fine.

Don't worry about how it looks, especially when you first open it.

A friend is still using a can of #16 that I first opened in 1990, no problems at all. In fact, I just bought enough #16 (and also Collinite 476S) to last the rest of my life. Decades from now it'll still work fine, just keep the can shut tight.

Oh, and I wouldn't microwave that particular wax lest you dry it out.

Rub it with the applicator. It'll turn semi-liquid when you move your applicator around on it. Then squeeze out as much wax as you can from the applicator before using it. It's pretty incredible how *little* #16 you need. You can get great results putting it on Zaino/KSG thin. One can should last many years if you don't put it on too thick, and thick applications cause all kinds of headaches with no added benefits.

I put a can under the blacklight and there *was* some otherwise invisible writing on the side of the can  It said "I7231WJCL" whatever that means

Mine also had cracks, but worked out very nice! I get an old school feeling applying this wax, and you could almost tell it's a pretty durable wax as your removing it.

accumulator are you serious? I gave my blacklight away to a friend years ago, wish i had it now. Where on the tin is it?

The two cans of #16 I just bought don't have any cracks in the wax but the first can sure did. Worked fine and got me hooked like crack cocaine on #16.

I just found some too! :up A local paint supply store didn't have any in their store but found some for me at one of their BC locations and is sending me one on order. I should be able to pick i up on friday ($18.xx CDN$).

Had I gotten off my butt and ordered some earlier this year BEFORE it was officially discontinued I could've gotten it with a discount for $14.83 or so at my car dealership (car club discount)...d'oh.

Thanks for the replies, I guess the stuff is ok.

Accumulator, I thought the guy was a little off when he told me about the code and only being able to see it under black light. You tried it and actually seen this code? That is wierd that Megs would do this kind of thing.

If I'm not mistaken it was made in the 70's, were lucky the can is a nice sporty shade of blue instead of tie-dye. :D

To think these serial #'s would appear under a black light is just :scared

Heh heh, yeah, it really is there. On the side of the can the labeling is repeated, so in two places you have a gap between the "16" at the end of one label and the fancy Meguiar's script at the beginning of the second one. The code is printed in one of those gaps.
