Medium Cut Edge Pad

Hey everyone, I just got my order of Edge pads in, they seem pretty nice, wont find out till this weekend.

Anyways, my question is on AG, their site says that the Green foam is medium cut and has 50 ppi (pores per inch)

On Edge's site it says that the Yellow is their medium cut and has 50 ppi...

Which one is it?

AG also has an orange pad, Edge's website does not have an orange pad??

Now im confused :wall

Jim

I'm confused on this as well. I'm looking to order these very soon. I was thinking of going with Green and Blue as there are no heavy defects I need to correct. Like you said though, the orange pad throws in some confusion. On AG it's listed as light cutting with the green as more aggressive. Those 2 are listed oppositely on PakShak.

???

Edit: After looking again, PakShak seems to be more consistent with Edge's site.

Darn pad colors. Someone needs to bring this up in congress...you know, uniform pad color legislation. It's the darn 21st century, for crying out loud! We'd better do it now...once we get into 2008...well, this kind of legislation will never pass in an election year...:LOLOL

I was talking with Aaron (Edge Founder and CEO) and he explained to me that green was polishin/light cut, yellow is medium cut and orange is the aggresive one. I used the yellow one with OC last weekend, and it did a nice job cutting and removing heavy swirls.

Hope this helps...

That helps, thanks.

Moosey, please start a new thread, Im sorry, I really do not mean to be rude, but I really want to get to the bottom of this and not veer off topic.

Bigfoot, thanks for your help, unfortunately I didnt get a yellow one because Autogeek says that the orange one is medium cut and yellow is the heavier cut.

This sucks if this is true.

I also spoke to the people at Edge and here is there explanation. The green is a medium cut pad and the orange is a heavier cut. However, if you're using orange with a PC you should be ok and it won't be to aggressive. If you're using orange with a rotary it might be to aggressive versus a green pad. I guess at high RPM's the orange is more aggressive. In person I spoke with Paul at CG and he told me the orange would be fine for medium swirls and wouldn't be to aggressive. He suggested orange, blue (light polishing or final polishing) and white for your LSP. The other guy who works at CG also told me that the orange pad would be ok for medium swirls.

I asked Edge several times if the orange pad has an actual PPI rating and they said "no." If it had a ppi rating then that would tell you where the orange pads lines up with the others. I honestly don't believe that it doesn't have a ppi. It seems that they really didn't know where the orange pad lines up. By hand I felt the orange and the green and the green seems more aggressive to me but after reading many posts here a lot of guys prefer the green, blue and white.

I think Edge has no idea what to do with the orange pad. They said they are in the process of redesigning their website and it should be updated soon. Something tells me they are getting rid of the orange pad. At this point I'm trusting the guys at CG since they've actually used the pads and they know that I'm just a weekend warrior.

IMO, based on all my reading and research the orange is just slightly more aggressive than the green but not enough to make a huge difference.

It seems that all the orange foam is the same and comes from the same place in Europe. I think DavidB referred to it as "Swisstex". Just like in some other current threads, I don't think any of the pad manufacturers actually make their own foam, so all of them are buying foam from just a few sources (maybe Edge makes their own...but not the orange, I guess).

The Swisstex orange foam is an OEM foam from what I understand. Most people that sell pads under their name get them from LC. Im pretty sure Edge makes their own foam.

I felt the orange and I felt the green, the orange seems *much* more aggressive and dense.

I now realize why my pads sucked last weekend, I was using them with SIP and according to Rydawg thats a no no. I found that out the hard way when my pads were squeaking across the paint at 1600 RPM's! Oh well, I will have to give OP a try with those pads so I can get some use out of them!

For now I will just settle on orange being more aggressive than green and less aggressive than yellow.....

My wool should be here soon anyways!

Oh yea Ive spoken to Coupe a few times, along with yourself, Rydawg and Superbee. you guys have convinced me to go wool, I called and placed an order for a custom wool pad today just to get my feet wet. I got a double sided edge wool green/blue.

Hope this solves my problems!

by the way, thanks for the post Superbee! Thats pretty awesome!

Ive always been so afraid of wool, you guys have helped me through that one.

Thanks!

Jim

So for Edge it is...

Yellow

Orange

Green

Blue

White

Red (AG only)

?

I just got my edge stuff but I DID notice more cutting from the orange over the green, thought it was just my imagination.

Actually its:

Black 40 ppi

Yellow 50 ppi

Green 60 ppi

Blue 70 ppi

White 80 ppi

these are for the HS 2K pads. I don't think they offer black for the PC.

I was always wondering where orange fit in there. From my use it fits between green and blue, but I'm reading that it is more agressive than green? I'll have to revist some test panels and see what I come up with. Then again with all this talk of wool....I might make the jump :nixweiss

It's all about the wool when cutting, Jim. Never go back to foam cutting pads-just ask Coupe. He knows first hand.

Does Edge offer any wool pads for use with the E2K system? I dont recall ever seeing them. If they do, I might grab a few. changing backing plates is a PITA when you're on a roll, ya know.

Yep and you can call Autogeek and order them. They will dropship them for you direct from Edge. I ordered mine on Monday, hope to have them by Friday!
