Mazda3 gets ONR lovin' for the first time!

I bought some ONR a while back and it got up to about 50*F today, so I decided to try it out on my Mazda3 that hadn't been washed in nearly 4 weeks. The car really wasn't THAT bad b/c we had a hard rain a few days ago which washed a lot of grime off. Anyway, here are some pics of the car being ONR'd this afternoon.

My supplies: A Home Depot grout sponge, bucket of ONR solution, 2nd bucket of clean water, A spray bottle of ONR solution I made mixing H2O & ONR in a 10:1 ratio. I used a waffle-weave MF towel to dry with.

This pic shows how dirty the car was a little better:

I presoaked the really grimy areas of the car with my ONR solution before scrubbing with my sponge:

My ONR solution...presoaking was a good idea I think:

Midway through the process, clean door on the left, dirty door on the right:

Done! Car is clean once again!

Why I would recommend the 2-bucket method...here is the rinse water, yuck!

Look at how dirty my sponge got compared to a new one! Sponge on the left WAS new before this wash.

thanks for sharing. next time, please put a paper towel or something under the GS or whatever you use to wash, the sight of seeing it on the ground makes me cringe LOL... :)

Don't worry, they will both be cleaned/rinsed thoroughly before being used again.:chuckle:

You had it on the ground before you started! C'mon...you're giving us heart attacks!

Ahh I guess you're right. I really need a rolling cart or something to set all my things on while I work. Oh well, no harm was done.

You could just put the sponge in the bucket like the rest of us. I will say your driveway looks very clean, but it's the principle of the thing--this isn't a charity car wash! :bestwish

The car looks great, although I have to admit like Al and Setec the first thing I noticed and made me cringed was the sight of that sponge on the ground!

Also I suggest a better sprayer than the Walmart one you got. It's cheap and it works, but even the Sam's Club spray bottles have a better sprayer and it comes out to be cheaper too (comes in a 6 pk).

Looks good, I've been meaning to pick up some ONR myself.

Oh and like everyone else, I said yikes when i first saw the pics of the grout sponge on the ground.

Nice job with the ONR clean up. (Nuff said about the sponge.) Makes me jealous that 1) your car was only that dirty after 4 weeks and 2) that you got a nice enough day to do an ONR wash.

I have a Mazda CX-7 and have been using ONR for all the washes the weather lets me do. I agree ONR is a great product. I too use a spray bottle to presoak as needed, though just in the QD strength. I can't remember right now what that is compared to your 10:1 - yours looks bluer than my mix.

Anyway, your nice clean Mazda made me smile. (If I didn't need the extra clearance and AWD, I would have gotten a 3.)

Thanks for the compliments on the looks after the ONR. If you don't have ONR yet, do purchase it, it's worth it.

Oh, I got paranoid tonight after the sponge on the ground incident & took a halogen lamp and inspected every inch of the car. There were no scratches to be found.

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I did that, I got in a rush maybe.

Hm... why grout sponge? do you normally use that to wash your car? I usually go straight to washing the car without presoaking. It never has marred for me yet ::knock on wood::. The only thing that's tricky for me with ONR is getting to the wheels. How did you tackle them without getting brake dust all over your garage floor (in your case your driveway)

That car you have there is a beast :). It's so much fun to drive!

excuse my ignorance please(kind of new to some products), with this ONR stuff you don't use water? How does that work? That would make me nervous........

Thanks in advance, Jason.

You use water, but as the name implies (Optimum No Rinse), there's no rinsing involved. Basically, you mix up a couple gallons of water with ONR and wash one panel and dry one panel. Move around the vehicle till you're done. Simple as that :).
