Anyone hear of this - it's a DA and a Rotary just by turning a knob. (ehehe he said knob) - it's 300 bucks (approx) but a DA and Rotary in one makes it a good buy

Heard of it, but never used it. THey have it over at CMA, they say its the safest circular for newbies

Hmm - on Makita's site it says the fastest it goes in rotary mode is 870 rpm ? is that going to be enough?

There was a thread here a while back on this I think.

I would love to try one, but I already have both. Maybe one day.....

I just read about it. I think if I go the powertool route I'll order a PC( and all accessories) from Dwayne and then if I decide I need a rotary I'll get a rotary.

I read somewhere that this particular Makita is not durable, I read that a while back, I'll try to look for the link Rick.

I posted about this a while back...

max opm- 5800
max rpm (roto-orbit)- 670

I can't really say much about durability, although I have also heard some bad things as well. Did not sto me from buying one though. The Tech support at Makita is cool, so if there are any issues, I think they will be handled quick (or as quick as they are able).

So far, I cannot say that I have any regrets in buying this machine. I was able to do some correction much quicker that i could do with the PC. It won't beat a rotary for sheer power and performance, but I find it offers more flexibility than just having a PC.

To me, it feels more comfortable with the side handle than without. One major thing I have noticed is that the makita feels a nervous using the smaller pads, so having the handle does offer a lot of stability. I plan to steal back some of the LC VC pads I gave to the shop, and try them out with the makita. I'm thinking that this may be better suited for using those kinds of pads as they are a bit wider.

The dual mode makita is made for wood working as is the popular PC. Tis may explain why the makita is slow rotary mode.
