I have been wondering if I was dreaming this up, or does Makita manufacture a Rotary/Orbital Buffer. If so, who sells them? I remember seeing one (I think) somewhere. It would be nice to have this combo tool upon instances when I do a detail away from my garage. Less stuff to unpack and put away. If anyone knows where to find this item please let me know. I find everything but this item.... but I may be overlooking it (or it was pulled off the market):nixweiss
 
Thank you for the reply, but the buffer I saw was configured just like a standard rotary, but had selector knobs,which allow either rotary or orbital functioning. now, unless I have been "toasting" my details too much, I saw this product last winter somewhere on the web...
 
Actually I have seen those two, but I have never seen them look like the buffers we usually use. I think the sander/polisher is the one that either oscialltes or rotates. When the machine rotates it also oscialltes, or you can have it osciallte by itself, but you cannot have it rotate by itself. The problem is finding decent pads for this because it is used mostly as a sander, but it is an awesome machine. When it rotates in only rotates at 600 or so rpm's, but because it also oscillates it is like 1800 rpms. I wish they made better polishing pads for this or that I knew where to find them, it is much easier to handle then the monsters we use. I have seen polishing pads for this but they aren't made to polish clear coats. They are kind of like polish pad/cloths that aren't very thick. I saw this at a trade show and I rememebred there was a reason I thought it wouldn't work as good for my details, but now I forgot the reason, lol. It was a long time ago. I have seen these used on cars, I think even one of the syndicated car shows uses them.

I used the BO6040 today on a troublesome detail. Very interesting machine...created great results rather quickly.



Why do you have trouble finding pads? It's just a 6' b/p that'll take 7' pads. I actually used some 6' and 6.5' pads whose velcro goes right to the edge...that's all I had and it worked well...naughty! :nono :D
