Makita meets John Deere

I detailed this lawn mower last winter but was unable to eliminate some significant scratches. So yesterday I went to it with my new Makita 9227. I started with a wash, then clay, the Menzerna twins using a 6' cutting pad and polishing pad respectively, and finally I switches to my PC and applied the Klasse twins.

Although not perfect, the paint now only has some very fine scratches in it, none that are visible unless you get really close and look at the right angle. I found the Makita really easy to use on the hood, a little more challenging on the sides. I was glad I ordered the small backing plate and 4" pads because a lawn mower has a lot of small areas to get to, and these small pads came in handy.

very cool :xyxthumbs

I'm getting a new John Deere like that next season , I can't wait to get it all shined up like your , but then I won't want to mow the grass with it. :D

Doug,

I'm really not too obsessive about the Deere during the mowing season. I will detail it once a year and rarely wash it. I really just wanted to practice on the rotary. Here is a shot of how this mower normally looks:

Our John Deere mower was the guinea pig for NXT. There is now a very nice looking oval on the hood whereas the rest of the mower is filthy.

And I thought that I was the only one who detailed a John Deere tractor. I have a 38 hp model 1070 compact Deere that I use to maintain my forty acres of Nebrsaka prairie. I detail just the tractor not the blade or the brush cutter. The darned tractor cost more than a Harley Davidson and doesn't have one bit of chrome.

Maybe we need a new forum main topic -- Deere Detailers. :D

Jim,

I do believe the paint is clearcoated. I remember when I purchased it and was reading the manual there was quite a bit of discussion on caring for the "clear coated" paint. In fact, there was more information on care of the paint on the Deere than there was for either my BMW or my wife's Lexus. And there was no paint transfer even with a cutting pad and a fairly aggressive polish.
