Makita backing pad

Hey all,

my 1st post here. Great site :wavey

Ive got myself a Makita 9227C and am looking for a backing pad that can handle 6' pads nicely.

Any suggestions? Is there a general rule of thumb to make sure the BP is always smaller than the pad itself? Ive heard of some using a 6' BP with 6' pads.

Id like to stick to 6' - 6.5' pads

Suggestions? Is the "Edge" only for 8"? What are its advantages?

Thanks!

For that size pad you want a ~5" BP (backing plate), so here are some options:

4.5" Hook and Loop Backing Plate (Rotary Polisher)

Rotary 4 Flexible Backing Plate

Meguiars Rotary Buffer W-64 Backing Plate 5"

3M Perfect-it III Rotary Backing Plate #09553, 5 inch

3M 09553 Perfect-it Backing Plate (Limited Qty)

My favorite is the one by 3M but it's expensive because they have to be imported from the UK; 3M doesn't sell 5" BPs and 6" pads in the states yet.

The following thread, starting with post# 56, talks about a group buy for some custom BPs but I have no idea how soon that will happen:
