Makita 7227C Wool question

Hi folks,

I just got my Makita today (yeah birthdays:buffing:)

Can anyone give me some info on the wool pad that comes with the kit?

I've always used foam when I borrowed the shop Makita, so I'm a little scared to use wool for the 1st time

Thanks :ca

That wool is pretty serious. You're certainly not going to finish hologram free with it either. I would just toss it and buy some quality wool. You're going to have to order some other pads and backing plates anyway even if you did use it (to clean up the mess it leaves). Keep the backing plate though, it works with LC PFW 6.5".

Thanks Cush,

I just put my order in for some Lake County CCS foam pads. I guess it's best to stay with what I know...

I'm really glad now that I didn't try that wool pad out on that dark blue Civic I did yesterday. It could have been a scary 1st day with my new toy :thx

Is it too late to add some LC purple foamed wool pads to that order? I think you'll find that they work much better/safer/easier/faster than cutting foam.

I already placed the order, but maybe I'll give the purple stuff a try next month (I pretty much can't survive without ordering something new at least once a month :))

Does anyone know how I can change the title of this post??? :nixweiss

I accidentally put 7227, but I know the model code is 9227 and it's driving me nuts to see that mistake every day :hairpull

It will probably take a moderator to change it. Try sending a PM to TortoiseAWD and see if he'll do it for you.

I am convinced (though probably worng!) that Shlegal makes the Makita "pads". I have the full wool and polishing wool from Shelga (that I love) and it feels and looks identical to the Makita verisons...

I have used their full wool pad on paint and felt it performs just as well.

Purple foam wool pads are not all the same, AG and ADS have the 1' thick ones, I thought I was getting a deal from TOL and then I discovered those were .75" thick, it doesn't look like much and they work the same. But I thought I'd share my experience in case anybody was shopping.

The Makita wool feels just like all the other twisted wool pads. IMO not a bad pad, nice for heavy correction.

I never got the .75" one from anyone but figured I'd mention that detailedimage.com sells the same ones as Autogeek...

I agree.. never tried other twisted wool pads but I gave the Makita wool pad a few runs on my old car and it performed just fine...
