Makita 6.5" Backing Plate - Size OK for Most Pads?

Hey just wondering if the backing plate that comes with the Makita rotary, which is 6.5", will accomodate most 7.5"/8" pads? Most pads I see have a recessed area for the velcro attachment so your backing plate needs to be that size. I just don't want to buy a $20 6" backing plate if I don't have to...thanks

I'd get a 5 or 6 inch backing plate- allows a wider rnge of pad sizes. I even use the 5 inch backing plate with 7.5inch wool pads.
