Making Websites Google-able

Okay, so I finished the website (PM me if you want to be a helpy-helperton and review it) but it seems as though making new sites searchable by Google may be harder than one would think. The only thing possible for me to do was a framed format, but reading after completion of the site's layout, it seems as though Google can't read frames. ARRRGHHH! Any self-proclaimed "Web nerds" who wish to help me will be glady received.

Background info (if needed): Used doteasy.com for hosting and provided search terms and site title and description.

And if bribes are necessary for help, there may be a bottle of your favorite sealant available!

Thinksnow,

What you are looking to do is called "website optimization". It's a fairly complex topic and there are companies out that who's sole purpose is such.

A few tips:

1) If you can, avoid using frames. The search engines used something called a "robot" (or "'bot" for short) to crawl and index the web. Some search engines robots do not handle frames well.

2) Incorporate meta tags into your HTML code. The two most frequent meta tags you'll want to use are "keyword" and "description". The keyword tag basically lists search terms that a user may use to search for your site. Let's say that you are a detailer in Montreal. Your keyword meta tag should probably contain the term "Montreal car care, Montreal auto detailing", etc. The description tag is a short summary of what the website is about. For example, "Thinksnow auto detailing provides..." Keep it short and simple.

3) Google tends to bump sites up in search results if they are linked to other sites. So you may want to consider asking local car clubs to link you.

4) One last tip: some websites go overboard in trying to bump up their Google (or other search engine) results. The search engines penalize for that and in some cases, will not list a site that uses "tricks".

Hope this helps.

be careful with meta tags and descriptions. if you repeat the same words or like words too often google will filter it as spam. be very careful.

My brother set up my site (yeah, it is pretty basic, upgrades one of these days) and people apparently have no problems finding it. I have a car to detail on Friday and when I asked him how he found out about me, he just did a search on the web.

Basically, do exactly what ema said with the addition of using CSS for your "design."

Here are the guidelines straight from Google

Probably the easiest and quickest solution would be to change your layout so that you aren't using frames. Sure, you'll have to reload some images and information, but a lot of that will end up being cached. And, the beautiful thing with CSS is that you can do rollovers without images (although you can certainly use images) and without any **********.

If you want, PM me the address and I can look it over and offer you some suggestions.
